Title: iWitness and iWatchout the same thing?
Post by: cswca on June 18, 2007, 01:04:33 AM
I ordered AHP that came with iWatchout SW33A, CM15A etc and when AHP loads it says I have iWitness registered and AHP registered but nowhere does it say anything about iWatchout?  Are iWitness and iWatchout the same thing?

Take a look at this post... Topic: FYI: iWitness name changed to iWatchout.  (Read 2332 times)  (http://www.x10community.com/forums/index.php?topic=11039.0)

As far as I know, nobody has ever posted any difference's between the two.

My guess is it's sold as  iWatchout, but when you install it, AHP thinks it's  iWitness.  It's probably something in the registry entries.

Changing the name in the program would have required a code change -- the graphics and names for the plug-ins are compiled in. X10 has made name changes before, and they generally don't imply functional changes. In this case since there wasn't a new build/release of the iWitness/iWatchout plug-in or ActiveHome itself, it's safe to assume they're identical products. (Or really, there aren't even two products since the code in ActiveHome is still iWitness. It's just a new marketing message for the same exact product.)

This doesn't surprise me. Chevy discontinued the Cavalier... but now has the Cobalt. Changing a products name is comman method of getting customers attention.
