Title: x-10 quit working
Post by: frodo on October 23, 2007, 04:41:06 PM
I have had x-10 switches in my house for years, in all different rooms, and several different circuits.  All at once they just stopped working.  It has to be some type of interference or conflicting signal.  The only thing I've done different lately was change power companies.  When you don't use the standard power comany in your area, do they put some kind of monitor on your line to get your usage or something.  I have no clue why all of them would stop at once.

I had the same thing happen to me about a year ago. Everything was working fine then poof no signal. The first step is to think "What is new?" Even a laptop or cell phone charger can suck the X10 signal. Start by unplugging that new 50 inch TV.  ;) and any other new stuff till the signal improves then start adding stuff back till you find the culprit. Buy a filter and plug the culprit into it.
Also a signal meter is a good investment. There's even a company that will lend you one for free. Be warned once you use it you'll want to keep it. Do a search of the forum as there has been a lot of discussion on this issue.

since you Say they All stopped working, My first thought is your transceiver is shot(fried from a power surge)!
What transceiver/s are you using?
What PC interface if any are you using?
Your description is very vague more info is needed! Have you read some of the trouble shooting threads?

You may have introduced a signal sucker close to the transceiver as well!
Did they all stop right after you switched power companies? I find it hard to believe this is the reason!
