Title: CM11A vs CM15A

What are the pros and cons of using these?  I'm trying to decide which I would want to use.

I am going to assume you've read [some] about both the CM11A and the CM15A.

The CM11A is old technology, it can hold and remember timers and simple macros. It hears the X10 line signal, and can send line signals.

The CM15A is the latest and highest form of X10 technology available today. It can transceive X10 signals, and send RF signal as well as hear line signals. Several plug-in softwares are available, allowing the CM15A to work with a PC to accomplish vastly more than with any other home automation product. Even with the added advantages and capabilities, the CM15A is simpler and easier to use.

A few more things to add to Dave's reply:

[li]CM15a is a USB connection CM11A has a serial port connector[/li]
[li]With the CM11A you'll need an additional transceiver the CM15A has one built in[/li]
[li]There are many software programs available for the CM11A. Not so many for the CM15A, yet![/li][/b]

The real key to deciding which one you want to use, is to Ask your self:

What do I eventually wish to do with it?
&
Will that controler do it?
The CM11A has many limitations

The X10 program; Active Home; for the CM11A also has issues with Windows XP. Third party software for it maybe fine. Also remember the serial port on many new computers is gone.

Much more information can be added, as I limited my reply to the extent of my knowledge of both. I had tried the CM11A... with very limited success. However as I understand it... one can actually use both devices, and not miss any advantage of ether.

Of course (shameless plug here) BVC (http://davesdomainonline.com/bvc/bvc.htm) requires the use of the CM15A.
