Title: Socket Rockets - Don't work with a dimmer switch?
Post by: wildh on November 15, 2007, 09:22:46 PM
Hello...new to the forum.  Just got a couple socket rockets and a IR543 so that I could turn off the rear ceiling lights without having to rewire things.  I have four can lights hooked up to one dimmer wall switch.  I would like to keep the dimming capabilities but want to turn off the two rear lights and X10 products seemed like a great thing.  They work in other parts of the house, but not on the lights I want to control.  Do the socket rockets not work if the wiring runs through a dimmer switch?????  Any work arounds?

Thanks.

Change the dimmer switch to one which can be controlled with X10 and forget the Socket Rocket for that location.

Will the X10 dimmer switch allow me to turn off 2 of the 4 lights completely?  I want to be able to control them seperately without rewiring.

Thanks,

Tom

OK, now I see what you want to do, and an X10 Wall Switch dimmer won't solve the problem.
However X-10 SL575  screw-in dimmers will work if they'll fit in your fixtures.  http://www.smarthome.com/2005.html
They're available on eBay for $16, shipping included.  See: http://stores.ebay.com/The-Home-Automation-Store
