Title: Help with Leviton X10
Post by: jmb on November 27, 2007, 06:53:34 PM
Looking for some help,

I have yet been able to get my Leviton 6376 relay/modules using a 16400 controller. My plan was to put 3 of the modules in the electrical boxes and a 16400 controller for 3 lights in an attic conversion because there was no wiring done for a switch in the space.

I had no luck getting the modules to respond after wiring (I am using a neutral wire also). I gave up on the whole idea but needed to replace the switch down stairs due to the lighting load. I ordered a HCM10 leviton switch because it had local control. I installed this switch and followed the programing for the receiver by the 16400 controller I installed upstairs, I didn't have much hope it would work but it did. Why does the HCM10 work and the 6376 relays do not? I have tried the tips on this forum such as running the 220 v appliances in the house with now luck.

This weekend I tried another 16400/6376 relay in a very straight forward wall scone layout with very close controller to relay distance, again no luck. I though I read that the mvolts to trigger the HCM10 was much lower than the 6376 module, am I suffering from signal loss and the HCM10 has a lower threshold so it functions? Should I give up on the Leviton red line products and only use the green line such as the HCMxxx models?

Any help would be appreciated

You may have already identified the problem yourself.  The HCM10 is a newer design with very good sensitivity, and includes "Intellisense" for noise rejection.  The 6376 is an older design, and the Leviton reference I have says nothing about "Intellisense" for that product.  There are also no sensitivity specs.  The 6376 is a dimmer module, and the 6375 is the relay module.

We have 5 of the 16400 controllers installed here, and we also use the 6375 to control power to our landscape lighting transformer.  Some 16400s trigger macros in the Ocelot.  Others have direct control of exterior lighting or the irrigation system.  All our wall switches are Leviton red line 16383 / 16293 / 6343.  They all have worked flawlessly for over four years.

You probably have marginal signal levels.  The extremely good sensitivity and noise rejection of the HCM10 allows it to continue to function under those conditions.  To get the 6376 modules working properly, you will need to investigate what is causing the problem.  I wrote some troubleshooting tutorials that should help:

Good luck.

jmb,

What faceplate are you using on your 16400 controller?  If your faceplate only supports Bright/Dim functions the 6375 relay module may not respond - it wants an on/off signal.  The HCM10 will respond to Bright/Dim commands.
