Title: Can't View gate.x10.com on ANY vistas ive tried
Post by: Sickofvista on January 15, 2008, 11:16:08 PM
Hi, I am using a Dell  INSPIRON E1705 with windows vista home premium installed.  I was told i could view gate.x10.com if i had administration rights (which i do) and installed ActiveX Installer Service.  Turns out that is not an option on home premium nor home basic.  Am i Screwed here guys?  PLEASE NOT---NOT TRYING TO RUN VANGUARD OFF COMPUTER JUST TO VIEW IT REMOTELY!! THANKS

Well.......  I'd sure hate to argue with Priority Support, bbbbbut I'm using Vista (Ultimate & Business Enterprise) and I DO have the Active X stuff working for MyHouse.  One has to Start IE in "Run AS Administrator" to get the Active X controls installed.

What I don't have is the Va11A Installed & running for the video.

And MyHouse just plain sucks - the servers are frequently down, connections happen only about ¼ of the time, disconnects are frequent.

Try using LogMeIn.com - it's 256 bit encrypted and it's just like sitting in front of your PC at home.

Read his post carefully. He has Home Premium not Ultimate or Business Enterprise. It is possible Home Premium or Basic will not allow what he wants. Microsoft has messed up many with VISTA and all its flavors.

Can't you just right click on the program icon and choose "run as administrator".  It IS an option for home basic.

Log in as an administrator. First, turn off the Windows firewall. Next, go to User Accounts in Control Panel. Click on "Turn on or off User account control". On the next pop up choose continue. Next, Uncheck the box that says " Use User Account Control to help protect your computer". After selecting that and choosing ok, it will ask to restart; permit it to do so. Once you have restarted, open up Internet Explorer. Go to http://gate.x10.com, http://sentinel.x10.com, or http://myhouse.x10.com. Once you go to your site, it will ask you to install ActiveX controls, tell it to do so. Once you've installed the ActiveX, a one-by-one pixel box should be shown in the upper right corner. If you are visiting MyHouse, then hoveing your mouse over that box should let you click and drag it out to size. If you are accessing the Vanguard or Sentinel remote, right click in the box and select Video Size 100%.

I have to go with Priority Support , right click on IE and run as administrator. I have both  Vista Home Premium and Vista Basic and both run the program with no problems.
