Title: WS14a LED indicator not lighting up
Post by: raccah on May 22, 2008, 08:52:52 PM
I have recently installed an XPS3/WS14a combination. My question is:

When I turn on the lights via either the XPS3 master switch or the WS14a slave switch, I see an LED light up on the XPS3. However, although there seems to be a similar LED in the WS14a, I never see it come on.

Everything else  works as expected - so does the LED work on the WS14a or not?  If it does work - what should I look for or how do I troubleshoot the problem?

Thanks for the newbie help (in advance)!

The Instructions for the X10Pro Version XPSS shows the LED as "In-Active". Most likely the WS14A is the same.

This confused me as well when I could not get the LED to illuminate on my companion switch. I assumed x10 was referring to "In-Active" as the state of the LED while the switch was ON or OFF.

Now I'm guessing that the LED is not functional at all and "In-Active" literally means the LED is used, it is simply there to fill the hole in the switch housing because they use a single housing for both the master and the slave switch to reduce cost of manufacturing.

I believe the companion 3-way switch is just that-- only a mechanical switch.  X10 may be using the same assembly (with the LED) as used in other devices to benefit from "economy of scale".
