So I've attempted to install the WS13A wall switch to control 2 CFLs, but with no luck. My original configuration and what I believe to be the correct configuration is this:

There is also a smoke detector as part of the circuit as well and I've determined that it is powered by the RED wire. When I have it hooked up in the diagrammed configuration, there is no indicator light nor are the CLFs on. When I hit the switch there is no sound from inside the switch, only the click of the button being pressed. Both the indicator light and the CLFs remain off.
Ideas??

yep, I see the problem.
You have the neutral of the line running to the switch, not the neutral of the load.
Tie all the neutrals together as they were in the original configuration and the run a neutral jumper wire from the wirenut to the switch.
Should have you fixed up.
P.S. not that I'm a real stickler for such things, but your smoke alarms should be on their own DEDICATED circuit with nothing else. Some models of 110v smoke alarms use the black wire for power and the red one to send a signal to the other detectors in the house. Just my $.02
Cheers

Thanks for the help! Works great now! Funny thing is, aside from wiring the neutral wires wrong the diagram on the X10 instructions show the neutral wire going into the wrong hole as well!
