Title: Newb OnAlert Question.
Post by: bitman on December 17, 2008, 10:45:56 PM
I just loaded On Alert because it was there.
It boasts about being able to trigger macros from security devices. I assume motion detectors are included in that family.

How is what On Alert can do differ from making a motion detector transmit on say, A9 and having a macro at A9? Doesn't that work already?
I've admittedly never tried.

What am I missing please.

Thanks

Bitman:

It's like having another set of codes.  The Security Consoles, AHP (ONAlert), the V572RF32, etc. all register/remember the Security Code of the sensor when its installed.  From then on, AHP/OnAlert refers to the device by NAME, not HC/UC.

Macros triggered by Security Sensors must be stored in the PC.
Security Sensors are MONITORED, just like FLAGs and those 16 MONITORED H/Cs.
Security Sensors can be used as CONDITIONS.

I think there's more, but I need more coffee....

The real advantage IMHO of On-Alert is being able to intergrate [hack] the DS10A into an automation/security system... WITHOUT using the security console. You can now use the cheap battery power DS10A's to add a:

The Automated Chair (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZEx3oP6rO0) was inspired by an idea from steven r and constructed after a fit of humor resulted in a challenge one evening in KDR's Home Automated Chat (http://bdshost.com/ac/).

Ok

I see.

I was blissfully unaware that the DS10a did not send out regular x10 commands but "security" x10 commands, and therefore did not integrate with AHP without something extra such as ON Alert.

Now I know.

I Love that automated chair! I am sitting in a recliner in the early AM as I type this and oh my, the applications! - Like having AH remind me that it is trash day. Something I space from time to time.
