Title: Can Dimming be Disabled on Lamp Modules (RCA HC10LM)?
Post by: eyeoutthere on December 21, 2008, 02:54:02 PM
I am getting into home automation and I am going to start purchasing equipment.

Can the dimming function be disabled on the lamp modules? Most of my lights are CFLs and are therefore not dimmable.

You cannot disable dimming on any X10 Lamp Module.  For CFL's you need to use an appliance module.  Where did find a RCA HC10LM branded module?  The last time I even saw RCA branded modules had to be in the early 1990s.

Appliance modules are what should be used on CFL bulbs. Unless you have dimmable ones. They work sporadically depending on the exact model of the bulb in question with lamp modules. CFLs don't like the new soft start Lamp Modules either.
Also older appliance modules would make some brand CFL bulbs flicker when off or cycle back on. The newer CFL friendly ones now being sold by X10 seem much more CFL tolerant.

Thanks.

I saw the RCA part numbers on E-Bay.

Do the light switches have the same limitations? It looks like they do from the descriptions.

What about the screw in bulb socket switches (“Socket Rockets”)? Are they CFL friendly?

Socket Rockets (LM15A) are CFL friendly.  I have CFLs in all my Socket Rockets.
