Title: Vonage
Post by: spam4us on December 24, 2008, 12:26:33 AM
In reading a post in the "problem & troubleshooting" area and doing a search, it seems that the only solution so far to using the DS7000 with Vonage is to change the line to a data line.

Hard to believe that this is the only solution as this usuall adds another $10/month or so charge.

C'mon........chime in as to how you use the DS7000 dial out with Vonage.

Is there anyone who has the DS7000 working with Vonage without the additional cost?

Thanks

I converted to a data line (just a phone call to Vonage techs) without any additional charge. This was a few years ago, however, and I'm now on Comcast.

I have been using Vonage with a DS7000 for over a year now without having done anything unusual to make it work. I have the standard Vonage package (no data line) and it dials out just fine. I am using Comcast for my internet provider in case that makes any difference.

My setup is Comcast cable internet connection, Motorola SB5120 Cable MODEM, Linksys WRT54G wireless router, Linksys Vonage phone adapter model PAP2. The router is configured to provide high priority to the port that the Vonage phone adapter is physically connected to.

Other than that, I have not installed any filters or had to make any other changes. The DS7000 is configured to dial out 4 numbers with the format 1-xxx-xxx-xxxx.

Hope this helps

Bob

I was unable to get this system to work with Vonage via Charter cable.  My guess is that it's not actually waiting for a dial tone and just dialing.  So if your system is a bit hesitant in getting a dial tone it won't dial out.

As for the data line as mentioned you can add a second data line, hope it works and pay an additional monthly fee.  If you convert your main line to a data line you'll be limited to 500 minutes per month and then a per minute charge kicks in.....which eliminates the reason for having Vonage.

Good luck, but if you've not already bought this one I'd look for one that allows a bit more flexibility in dialing like adding pauses if your working with a "dumb" dialer.

Just remember ONE thing about VOIP.  If your internet provider (Comcast, Charter or who ever) goes off Vonage or Comcast VOIP won't work.  You need either a cell phone or a land line phone line.
