From what I've seen, a number of people have run into the same issue (including me.) The best recommendation I've seen is to move back to an older version of AHP. HOWEVER, keep in mind that if you do end up doing that AND you're using X10 cameras, you won't be able to use them with older versions of AHP. The recommended version is 3.228.

I am having the same problem. Everything seems to work, downloads program, reports to activity log, controls lights, etc., but when I go to Hardware Configuration, the program crashes everytime. Where can I get an older version of the software?

Go to http://software.x10.com/pub/applications/activehome/ and look for ahp_updt 204.exe Download that and install it over what you have now. Once it is installed, open AHP and use the update link to upgrade to 3.228.

For some reason, version .228 crashes on my Vista machine (Acer desktop), but version .204 seems to be okay. I guess I'll live with the minor bugs until better software comes out.

Make sure there is a file called ICities.xml on your AHP directory in Windows. For whatever reason, I was missing that file on one of my AHP installs and AHP would crash right after going into Hardware Configuration. Pulled a copy off of another machine and it worked like a charm! And reinstalling as Dan posted, should get that file back for you, too. Good luck!

Hi phatfield,
I ran a system wide search and didn't find filename ICities.xml.
Where is it exactly?
Thanks,

It didn't show up in a simple Windows search for me either, but it does exist in my "Program Files (or Program Files (x86)) / ActiveHome Pro" folder.

Interesting.
I have both .228 and .236 installations and neither has the file. BTW, I have the all files showing including system files for files/folder setting.
Did a websearch and actually found a thread here. http://forums.x10.com/index.php?topic=19360.0
Downloaded the file but it is corrupted. :(

Hi Eagle,
Yeah...I'm not sure why but a reinstall did not seem to help me either. The iCities.xml file has latitude and longitude for a whole bunch of cities. Getting that file into the ActiveHome Pro folder fixed my crashes. For my Windows XP install the file is at
C:\Program Files\ActiveHome Pro\ICities.xml
I don't think I can post it - mine is dated 5/9/2008 and is 503KB. If you'd like, e-mail me at phatfield_at_yahoo.com and I can attach it in a reply for you. It's nt my work account but I will check it throughout the day.
Take care,
Patrick

Hmmm, my ICities.xml is dated 6/7/2004 and apparently dates to my first install of AHP in 2005. Wonder where yours came from?

Hi Dan,
I wonder if the iCities.xml differences are from different versions of AHP? 5/28/08 could be close to my first ever install - I downloaded 3.236 from a link provided to me when I ordered a bundle pack from x10.com. I do know that the iCities.xml file works with the 3.228 that I've downgraded to. The cool thing is one of the cities contained in the file is a small town not too far from where I live - great for fairly accurate dusk/dawn settings for my timers!!

That has to be the cause. I suspect AHP doesn't care about the file date, just so a copy of iCities.xml is present in the directory.
