Title: Basic Question about the RR501 Transceiver Module

I'm showing my ignorance here...

In my "box-O-X10" stuff I have the RR501 transceiver.  I'm not sure how or why I got it, and I'm not sure at all what to do with it, or why I need one.

Can someone explain in simple fashion what type of application would this be used for?  I'm totally clueless!

Receives an RF X10 signal from things like a HR12A Palmpad Remote Motion Sensors etc. Then sends the X10 commands over the power line to modules. On the House Code the Red Dial is set to. Only that House Code is tranceived.

Also has a appliance relay in it that can be turned on and off by an RF signal or power line signal. Using the House Code and Unit 1 or 9 set by the slide switch.

Geewiz,
If you are familiar with a TM751 used to receive RF signals from remotes and "transceive" them onto the power lines then you know what the RR501 transceiver does. The same thing with a few differences.


Differences between RR501 and TM751

RR501

two-way module/receiver which will act on X10 line signals as well as RF signals

The "appliance-like" module receptacle can be set to either unit 1 or 9

Can be polled for "status"

All range modifications reported working

Has collision avoidance


TM751
 
will only react to RF signals, not X10 line signals. it will however still put the 16 unitcode signals for one house code on the line (when instructed to by X-10 RF)

can only be unit 1 (not changeable).

Cannot be polled for "status"

Some reports that the range modifications didn't work. Most reported it does

Does not have collision avoidance

It's a better version than the tm751.

You're fortunate to have one layin' around.  ;)
