I currently h ave the 4 year old $129.00 deal that I use in my flat...so basically Voice Dailer, 2 IR sensors, 5 door sensor blah blah blah.
However, will the Voice Dailer have enough range to cover 3 story town house? If not then is there a extended range version?
Also, I want to secure my garage door but I heard that do to temperature extremes that occur during the seasons in the garage the rheostat in the magnetic contacts might break...will a motion sensor positioned on a wall looking at the garage door fair better?
Finally should I place the Voice Dailer console on the 2nd floor? That way it will be fairly equidistant between the 1st and 3rd floor sensors?
Will that whole system comply with PC home automation system if I were to purchase the Home Automation software?

You should have no problem with your old system!
Try to centralize the location of the voice dialer will help with possible range issues.
As for temperature extreams I don't think that will be an issue either.
I have a 3year system at my cottage which was rarely used (heated) in the winter. The door window sensors still perform as good as day one.

Well I certainly don't doubt what Mr. Tuicemen says but I've always had problem with both door/window and motion detectors in the cold had a couple in an unheated extension we were building and over the course of two years had multiple failures these were the only ones to fail so I attribute it to the cold. :-\
