Title: Ceiling Fan and Socket Rocket

Would there be any problems using a Socket Rocket in a 3-speed ceiling fan light fixture?

If the switch for the lamp is strictly On/Off there should be no problem (assuming the fan motor or its controller doesn't generate noise or attenuate the X10 signal).

There will be a problem if the lamp switch already includes a dimmer function (which you can possibly rewire around).

The light is strictly on/off....no dimmer capability. So I guess I'll try it.

1 lamp socket or 3 sockets?  Are the globes on the fan lamps large enough to hold both a Socket Rocket and the light bulb or will the bulbs protrude?

Be VERY careful with Socket Rockets.  It seems that when a bulb burns out, it may take the socket rocket with it.  Then you have pay more than the socket rocket cost you to get another one. :(

I absolutely agree with you FixItPete that there may be a problem in using socket rocket. A friend of mine already experienced it, I am not sure if the bulb did burned out but the socket rocket did. Anyway, I think you should just stick with the original socket. Ceiling Fans (http://www.fanimation.com/)

It is not uncommon for a bulb to blow and take out the Socket Rocket, and to a lessor degree Lamp Modules, Wall Switchs, etc. It can happen on non X10 dimmers also. It does not happen all the time and Phillips brand bulbs, because of the way their filament is supported, tend to do it less. Other than losing the Socket Rocket (the triac shorts so the unit will not turn off when a new bulb is installed) no other damage occurs.  Us "old guys" just keep a few extra Socket Rockets in the "Spare X10 Stuff" box.   :)

Well the Mega Module sale is still in effect. Six Socket Rockets for $39.99. So a few spares isn't that hard to do.  ;D
