Title: X10 House Alarm Recommendation
Post by: mdavenport on December 12, 2009, 08:05:41 AM
We are just doing our house up and want to install a new alarm system that is X10 compatible that I can extend to include other features like light control etc. I am looking for the following from the alarm:-

1. Exterior alarm sounder
2. Control panel to be in the hall so it can be de-activated when entering the front door
3. Wireless sensors (about 5 required with the support for more)

These are the basics I would require, however I would be interested in something that can be added to like the following:-

1. Ability to SMS you when the alarm goes off
2. Ability to set/unset the alarm over the internet (I have a wireless router at home)

I'm not too bothered about having this monitored by a third party company.

My budget is around £500.

I'm not too sure how all the X10 bolts together etc so any information on how this would all be added would be a help.

All suggestions/recommendation are very much appreciated.

Thanks

The X10 Forums are for US and Canada X10 users.   You need to check the UK x10 suppliers for what you will need.  Good luck!!! :)

Actually the X10 Forums are for everyone! Shame on you Dan!!! :(

The Basics are the same on both sides of the pond!
mdavenport   every thing your looking at right now is possible using X10.
As for exactly what hardware\Software you'll need, ??? there are a few UK users that may be able to chime in with some suggestions!

The basics are the same. But there are such huge differences in modules and such... even voltages in some cases. I would love to be helpful to our friends in foreign nations (Canada included). I am fortunate that I don't have to worry about if the country in question measures electric current in volts or meters (or is it liters) as I have no technical knowledge anyways.

Which makes me wonder... do these guests from afar (left coast included) realize their posts on a American forum. does everyone know the modules are very different? Does X10 Europe have a decent forum? Is there an X10 Asia?
