Title: pc needed only part time
Post by: sunnyboy12370 on January 07, 2010, 03:17:41 PM
I'm a nu-be to x10.. I will learn and also try to help. I have already purchased and received some x10 equipment.    My newest purchase was :                               VA12A usb digital video converter                                                               VR36A wireless receiver                                                                           MS14A motion sensor                                                                              CM19A usb wireless receiver
x10 software for pc

I already had : (1) XC22A camera w/XM16A power supply
Ninja pan tilt VK74A (not being used)

I have installed software and can see picture from camera on pc. What I am trying to do is to have my pc record only when motion is detected. At present time I am using 1 camera. I installed 1 motion sensor to the pc program. It seems like I'm missing something. I contacted customer support and was told I need transceiver module. I also noticed in the Ninja pan tilt kit, there is a remote keypad. This kit has not ever been used.
I'll stop for now. I can't locate the setup instructions that I seem to need. Maybe I just don't how all this goes together. I will understand.
thanks for help and comments.

Customer Service... is correct.

X10 works in a couple different ways... X10 sends Radio signals Like the Motion sensor and the CM19A. And X10 uses a signal sent over your homes 120 Volt AC power lines like your camera. You need a part not included in your kit. The part you need is a TM751 (the transceiver module). It plugs into a wall outlet... and will take the radio signal sent by your motion sensor and CM19A and generate a signal on your powerline for your camera.

The transceiver module is about 12 bucks... but if you look for deals you can spent slightly more and get much more (like an extra motion sensor).

Thanks for the good lead. I will follow on this.
Just what is the CM19A used for?

It sends out a RF signal from your PC to control the pan and tilt of your camera.
When used with a TM751 it will allow you to turn on/off your cams from the PC as well as lights and appliances

I have hooked my VK74A pan n tilt kit. I used the XM14A power supply that came with it. Powered up and have a picture on my pc. Will I need TM751 to be able to pan n tilt? Or do I use the CR14A remote that came with the pan n tilt kit. Seems like I should be able to control the pan n tilt from my pc. I do have the CM19A plugged into the usb. Is there a place on the Vanguard screen to recognize the CM19A? I am going back to the Vanguard screen to look around some more. I went into the Vanguard "help" section. Didn't see an answer. I'm getting there. Feeling good about this.

I figured it out. I can now pan n tilt from my pc. I will work with what I got for now. I still have much to learn about x10 systems. Thanks to you that helped me along so far. I'm sure I'll have more reading to do. Best to ya!

You would need a TM751 if you get more than one camera or Ninja. They default to On when powered up. If you added a second Ninja or wireless camera both would be on and follow the remote. The XM14A is controlled by the power line X10 signals. The TM751 would send the proper on and off commands to the XM14A.

Thanks for the additional explanation. I needed it. It will all seem simple once I understand. Thanks again.

With one camera not 100% needed but any additions would require one. Even a lamp module you wanted to control from a remote.
