Title: ghost modules & flags???
Post by: mkgriff on February 04, 2010, 11:35:33 AM
I don't know where this goes so I'll put it here...  What's a ghost module and how do I make one?  I know what I want to do I just don't know how to do it!  Also what our flags (I know, they are wavy material things, but that's not important now) and what are they good for?

Serially,

I did check those, but remember I grew up in the 70s, my brain cells B:(or ???.  Just a quick explanation of a ghost module with possibly a demo would really help.

Here's my guess a ghost module is actually just a light or appliance module that doesn't really exist , it is then set to an address so you can use that address to trigger something else...  Is this correct?  If so then when I'm setting up a ghost or phantom module all I'm really into his use an appliance or light module?

I know what I want to do, I think I know how to do it, I just want to get some questions answered first.

Thanks

Are you are asking whether to use a lamp module or a appliance nodule as a ghost module?
Appliance module, they only have two states, just like a flag.

These are both good... and advanced questions.

Often when writting or creating a macro I find there are pending conditions. Like it would be nice if this motion sensor turned on a light when I enter this area.. but only if NO OTHER light was already on. So this could be a use for a conditional macro.

But.. with multiple "rooms" of devices and multiple House codes (only 16 of which are "monitored" codes). I may find myself needing to create a fake or pretend, ghost module in the correct room or of a monitored code.

That fake or ghost module can then fulfill a condition... even though no actual device has been turned on or off. Monitored codes are user selected and you get ONE house code.. or 16 unit codes (same house code) TOTAL. The CM15A... remembers the status of these H/U codes. You also get 16 flags... which are set (on) or cleared (off) and remembered by the CM15A. Flags can serve much the same function(s) as monitored modules.

A simple explanation of a ghost module is a module set up with a H/U code in AHP that does not have a physical  module (lamp module, appliance module, etc...) actually plugged in somewhere around your house to control.  Even though there is no physical module to control, AHP will remember the last command sent for that ghost module.

Remember though that if later down the line in your x10 expansion you decide to set a module to that H/U code, you will either have to change your macro or use a different H/U code for the new module.

that's exactly what I thought but I wasn't really sure.  Thanks for the info... >!
