Title: 4826B SignaLinc Repeater three failures
Post by: jcbyte on April 03, 2010, 06:43:05 PM
I have had three of these repeaters.  They solve my problems when they work but after about a year they fail.  The last one failed just after the warranty ran out so I will not buy another one.  Any suggestions for another solution.  I presently have a passive phase coupler installed but this just doesnt solve my problems of intermitent signal reception.

First does anyone have any answer to why three would fail and secondly any suggestions as to alternatives?

Was there any specific failure mode you could see? Like no LEDs or such?

I had two of them that got into X10 Signal Firestorms with a CM15A running AHP.

Then an ACT CR134 that was replaced by the XTB-IIR.

Do you need a plug into dryer outlet type?
Many of us here now use the wired in XTB-IIR by JV Engineering. Blasts an X10 signal on the power line that is many times greater than any other repeater we have seen.

I tried a 4826B, and ended up returning it.  It was the only X10 device that was so bad, I had to take the step in all my decades of playing with X10.

Anyway, I ended up going back to my passive phase coupler, and using a BoosterLinc 4827 (http://www.smarthome.com/4827/BoosterLinc-Plug-In-Signal-Booster-X10-X-10-Amplifier/p.aspx).  I plugged it into the service outlet right next to my breaker box.

I second the XTBIIR or the ACT234. Like Brian H, my experience is the X10, Leviton, and Smarthome units either don't hold up, or make problems they shouldn't.
