Title: Is activehome CM15A range the most popular brand/approach for developers?
Post by: callagga on June 13, 2010, 12:50:15 AM
Hi - just a newbie question - I'm interested in applying my programming skills to the home via X10

Is ActiveHome SDK with a unit like CM15A (with SDK) the main/most popular choice in this area?  (I'm stubbled across this first)  Just wanting to get a feel for this niche and which are the main players before jumping in.  Any advice?

(Oh - By the way I'm in Australia so I'll need a 240V based solution somehow too - not sure this changes the recommendations?)

Support for programming the CM15 without the SDK is slim to none.
Folks are forced to reverse engineer the protocol by sniffing the USB traffic.

I prefer to run Linux so the ActiveHome SDK is worthless to me anyway.

thanks - I was actually meaning to ask about if there are any other hardware devices (not the CM15A) from other manufactures that have a computer interface and supply an SDK that could be used?

I don't know about devices like the Ocelot -- but I've started reading about the Insteon controllers.
They strike me as the next, best "Plan B" if I still need a controller I can program that works with my X-10 devices.
