Title: 3 WAY SWITCH PROBLEM
Post by: Quinn401 on November 12, 2010, 01:18:15 PM
I have an x10 3 way switch that runs an exterior light. First, the light cannot be turned off with the mini timer or the slave switch. The light will only dim to the lowest brightness. the master cutoff is the only way to turn it off the light. second the slave will only turn off(dim) the light and will not turn it back on(brighten the light). I called the x10 800 and they said to try changing the house setting. I tried A-G( all of them) and it changed nothing. Has any one seen this before. Is the slave switch bad? any help would be great?

Sounds like you have a Soft-Start problem.  X10 is making most modules Soft-Start now, including plug-in and wired modules.  To properly use them you have to use the LM14A 2 -way module for lamp modules and the AM14A and AM15A for appliance modules to control them.  The three are listed in AHP, but X10 no longer makes them.

If neither the buttons on the master nor the slave switch will not turn the light off, then you have a bad master switch. And X10 tech support/customer service are bozo's to think that changing the House Code will effect the local control buttons.

Come on X10...update your telephone scripts.

The new ones also have preset dim. I believe a few here have had children set them to almost 0% and then think they don't go on.  ::)

thanks for the wiki link

I was about to reinstall the old switch. I can't have my main hallway light stay at very dim.

that info really needs to be in the package.

Yes the information would be nice.
Some users with young children. Find they like to reset the dim levels and Mom and Dad are just thrilled.  :'

Or worse, the child breaks the push button off thinking it's a regular light switch. Been there, had to replace the wall switch.  :(
