Hello just bought one of the Factory Like New remote chimes, sure enough it looks new just that the volume seems a lot lower then my older one anyone notice this. My older one is well kind of loud this one is much softer and the tone is different, just wondering if x10 changed them or I got a defective one. Kind of like the louder one better because you can hear it all over the house, not sure this one would wake me up. Thanks for your help!

Come on guys B:( someone has to have a older one someone give me a hand with this have they changed the volume on these, maybe there's a fix to increase it a little, actually would be nice if x10 would design it so that the volume was adjustable. Thanks

I've got a couple older ones... but no recently made chimes. I have one chime as part of my perimeter detection setup (it is merely a backup warning sound). Then I have another chime set to the same H/U address and my DS7000 console. It chimes to alert me that I have triggered the alarm (when in the delayed setting) in an area too far from the console for me to hear it's alert sound. At one time... I used a Universal Module because of its piercing sound... and to be able to tell that warning from the other [chime] warnings.
Now because I use BVC (http://www.davesdomainonline.com/bvc/bvc.htm) my warnings are all [computer] voice warnings. I can (and do) even add wave files (I think MP3's can be played now as well). I even have one warning that turns on an outside speaker (http://www.youtube.com/suitmanIM#p/u/18/apZF77tsZlI) to warn any tresspassers.

What Date Code was on the module in question?
Mine have a Piezo Transducer Sounder and I have never seen any way to adjust the volume for them.
The transducer is driven by a transformer. Date Code: 02E19
Since we have seen other modules recently updated with more readily available parts. I would not be surprised if later version chime modules are different. Than the ones I have.
The only modifications for a chime module I have seen are dated 1995.

I have several chime modules with date codes ranging over several years (don't have them all in front of me but would guess anywhere from 05 or before to 09).
All of the ones I have sound the same tone, but 2 I did find with an identical date code had slightly different intensities.
One seems a fair bit sharper sounding than the other.

Hmmm.... OK guess they did make a change will look for the date code on my older unit and get back. Gave my parents one I had laying around hooked up some floods and a chime for them, appears as though the one I gave them it's newer has the same lower tone as the new ones I just received. Thanks guys for the help.

Dave my man ;D give me the run down on this BVC this may be the way to go that way I'll know exactly whats coming from where. ;) be nice if x10 made those chimes with a simple way to change the pitch or melody so you could easily differentiate between them and they would sell a ton of them, naa but that would be to logical. Dave my man ;D give me the run down on this BVC this may be the way to go that way I'll know exactly whats coming from where.
I really think it is! I have several videos with BVC speaking at my YouTube Channel (http://www.youtube.com/suitmanIM).
But you can simply go to Bill's Web Site (http://www.wgjohns.com/bvc.htm) and download everything needed for a trial run. The holiday break is a good time to spend a little quality time with the computer setup. The trial doe's have a nag built-in and needs restarted after running an hour. Bill is still only asking $30 bucks for the full program... which of course includes the Voice Command (http://davesdomainonline.com/bvc/bvc.htm)... as well as the announcements.
BVC even has a feature that allows the voice to yell announcements [or play WAV or MP3 files or signal a H/U address] when the X10 alarm (DS7000) is triggered (a perfect solution to an outside siren). My wife even had me add voice reminders for her (great for the WAF)... we couldn't get along without our Kate [the Kate 16 bit voice].
Whereas I have given up nothing to gain this advanced automation (I can still turn lights off and on like everyone else). The extra safety, security, convenience, and plain old luxury of advanced automation really increases the quality of live. And isn't that what HA is really all about.

Hi Dave been running and just saw your post going to check out everything as you suggested. Going to those websites NOW and give me a few days and I'll get back and tell ya what I think. Going to YouTube first to check things out, didn't you say you use baby monitors with this setup, I think someone said they did. -:) :)%

To talk to the computer [give Voice Commands] I DO use Baby Monitors. I came up with that quick, cheap, and easy solution (http://davesdomainonline.com/microphone/babymonitormod.htm) back in the early days of BVC. I've posted my X10 story (http://davesdomainonline.com/microphone/mystory.htm) of my BVC experence. My Baby monitors have been is use for about four years or so. I had always planned on switching to intercoms... but never have.
To hear the announcements and wav/MP3 sounds I use [wired] powered PC speakers. I even use one powered speaker as a pre-amp for the others (saves the soundcard). A wireless speaker system could also be used.

Another Dave here.
Homeseer is one of the few pieces of HA software that can co-control X10 and Z-Wave. I guess you need two interfaces however.
