I have been using a PR 511 floodlight module to turn inside lights etc on for over 5 yrs with great success. I know it is a deterrent having found abandoned items obviously left by startled would be intruders. ( A bicycle outside a ground floor window with the front wheel still spinning on one occasion !)
Recently all modules ceased responding , though I can hear the PR511 sensor click on.
At the same time I noticed that all 3 pin appliance modules are remaining permanently "on". I am chasing down everything I can think of in terms of recent additions etc ., however I thought the appliance module problem might be familiar with forum members . Thank you in advance for any help.

Can you tell if they click three times when they are supposed to go off?
Do you have any other X10 devices or controllers?
-
Never has clicked at all when turning off and not doing that now, just the click outside when the 511 motion sensor kicks on. No other x10 devices what so ever. It's basically the 511 and three modules, one of which is an appliance module. I noticed that even though nothing should be on , what ever I plug into the appliance module is getting juice. The lamp modules not so, and neither variety are responding to the motion sensor signal.

If the last X10 signal was an On and all the modules where in the On condition. Before the problem started.
The Appliance modules ratchet switch would be On even after a power cycle by removing it from the wall socket.
Lamp Modules on the other hand. If they are On when power is removed and then reaplied. They stay off.
Only a rough guess since you have no other X10 controllers. Is the PR511 has a problem.
Have you powered it off maybe by a circuit breaker and then reaplying the power for a power cycle reset.
The other thought is have you added anything to the home. Like a new TV computer cell phone chargers? As the could be some new power line noise scrambling the PR511s signals to the modules.

Do you have any CFL bulbs? One of them may be failing and flooding the powerline with enough noise to block the X10 signals.
-
Have re applied power, the outlet is on the same phase as the PR 511, have unplugged a new TV & computer, no change. Checking for CFL bulbs as we speak, thank you for the responses.

Confirmed as a faulty PR 511, replaced the unit and everything is working. Thanks for the help in tracking this down,
