Hi everyone, a quick queistion: Is there a dog door that can be opened and closed with a remote too? I've seen a lot of nice electronic dog doors, but none of them seem to have the option to open them remotely.
Thanks for the help!!!!

Why woud you need a remote if it's automatic? Have you seen the RFID dog doors?

He apparently didn't see the Dog has to go out alert? (http://forums.x10.com/index.php?topic=22057.msg125256#msg125256) thread with the RFID Doggie Door (http://www.plexidors.net/plexidor_electronic.php). A very interesting thread IMHO.
But I would guess he doesn't want the dog running in and out completely on his own. My mind thinks... dog runs out in the rain... runs inside and rolls on the sofa and carpet till dry.... then runs back out in the rain... then back inside...
I am actually kinda shocked we haven't seen more user pictures of their doggie automation.
These threads remind me of the insomniac, agnostic, dyslexic.... who would sometimes lay awake all night wondering if there really is a dog.

Hey Guys, thanks for replying.....
Dave is right, I dont want them going in and out whenever they want (which is always)......I want to be able to do it, but from my room upstairs, or from the couch......is there a way to do it? Or if it doesnt exist exactly like that, is there a way to tweak a x10 light switch or something, and make it trigger with the x10 remote or something like that?
Thanks guys!!! :)

The chances of finding a dog door that can be triggered directly by a X10 RF remote are nil. In your dog door research, did you find a door that could be acivated by a contact closure? or by it's own RF remote? If so, either of those could be adapted to X10 control with a "Universal Module" and a TM751/Palm Pad or key fob combo.

Dave is right....
I showed that to my wife... she seemed skeptical.

You might be able to hack together a an X10 remote (http://www.x10.com/promotions/ir34a_ed_premiere_0722_v2.html?|INTHOME:) controlled Universal Module UM506 (http://www.x10.com/automation/um506_s.html) (using a TM751 and a relay controlled lock of some sort) to control a doggie door. Let your search engine be your friend for finding someone else who done this first.

There is an electronic door that has an "open" button to manually open the door, I guess I could use that.
Here's the picture of the top panel of the door.....

Pretty fancy.
You would need to get access to the circuit board and solder two wires across the "OPEN" button's terminals. Those wires would get connected to the X10 Universal Module.
You might also call the company that makes this dog door. They might offer a unit that is made for an external control. Or they might offer a hand held remote.

Found it! Here at this YouTube Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKseZWZx9Nk&feature=player_embedded). Its also an instructable http://www.instructables.com/id/Build-a-Remote-Control-Deadbolt/

Hey guys I recently purchased a new home and want to install dog doors through my garage out to a fenced in area. There would be one dog door in the door in the garage and another door on the exterior wall that would lead out to the fenced in yard. Essentially they would walk through the garage out to the fenced in area.
My concern would be that when I open the garage the doors the dogs would have the ability to run out therefore loosing the dogs. Another scenario would be if I was returning the house and open the garage the dogs could run out as well. I want the ability to lock both doors before I open the garage doors securing the dogs either outside in the fenced in yard or within the house.
I'm not very tech savvy but based upon your previous threads there is a way to make that happen. Can someone please explain what door/products I would need to allow me to do this.
Thanks in advance.

One way is to use the pet door on AC only, don't install batteries, so the door will only work when powered by AC.

And plug it into an Appliance Module.

And use RF Transceiver with RF remote to switch appliance module(s) and power door ON and OFF.
