Title: Controlling WS12a Dimmers with Icon Remote (IR32a)...
Post by: Cory on April 15, 2011, 02:34:25 PM
Hi there,

I have four WS12a dimmer switches hooked up and am trying to control them with the IR32a Icon remote with no luck. I tried a few different addresses on the switches, still no luck, what am I missing here?

Thanks in advance.

What transceiver are you using with it?
Do you have AHP if so what version Number?

Sounds like that's the missing piece of the puzzle... I was under the impression that the switches would work directly off the remote, I was on the phone with x10 and it was suggested my remote was faulty.

So is this what I need? http://www.aartech.ca/rr501-x10-rf-transceiver.html (http://www.aartech.ca/rr501-x10-rf-transceiver.html)

yep that will work!
However if your thinking of expanding your system down the road you may wish to look at Active Home Pro
which includes a transceiver (CM15A)

Yes of the two X10 transceivers. The better one is the RR501. As it can be controlled by power line and RF commands besides sending the remotes signal back on the power lines.

X10 didn't ask you anything about what transceiver you where using and maybe moving it to a different location to see if things improved?
Before declaring the remote maybe bad?  ???

All my X10 products are in 1 room, so I don't need anything fancy for now. So with the RR501, I'll be able to control any remote receptacles as well, correct? I have a couple SR227 receptacles to hook up...

Also, does anyone have a link to a good beginners guide for x10? I'm having a heck of a time finding a good source of info.

You should be able to control the outlets also. As long as you use the same House Code for all of them and they all can receive the X10 signals on the power line. Sometimes different circuits can be in the same room and signal problems can happen.
The RR501 can do one house code and all sixteen unit codes for an X10 address in a module.
