I have had X10 for about 9 years and integrating these new soft start LM-465 modules have been a pain in the neck. I can get them to work using the "non soft start" setting but I have tried the LM-14a designation and they didn't work at all when I tried to turn them on manually. I also tried the "Lamp" setting instead of the LM-14A and they seemed to work OK manually but didn't work when I loaded them into the CM-15A. Any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
You are probably asking why bother then - well I want to use the new signaling system because I am kind of a geek. Also is it normal to have to reset the CM-15A to download when you change the lamp settings? It's driving me crazy. Thanks.

Make sure you don't have both new (softstart) and old (non-softstart) modules assigned to the same housecode/unitcode combination.
What version of AHP are you running?

I only have softstart modules on a single circuit - they are not mixed. I have AHP version 3.316. I couldn't find "LM14a" for my lamp module selection so I used the "two way lamp module" selection. Do I need to download to the CM-15a when I make a change to the module type? Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.

Everything in the Lamps section is for soft-start modules (LM14A is there even though it's an old style module. X10 hasn't made them for years, you can't even get one on E-Bay). Old style modules are in the Older Lamps (no Soft-Start) section. The different modules have to come from the proper sections. Once you have all modules in the proper types, you can upload to the CM15A.

You can mix different module types on the same circuit (referring to all the devices on the same fuse or circuit breaker). However, they should not be mixed on the same Housecode/Unitcode (the little red and black dials on the module).
Why are you using the LM14A, if the modules are LM-465's?

I have tried using just lamps and lamp module and it doesn't seem to work when I download it to my CM15a. I used the LM14a (Two way lamp) as that what it said in the article titled "Read this before you use SoftStart. It seems that when I use the settings you are supposed to use, the lights do not come on or are so dimmed they appear to be off. Thanks - your help is certainly appreciated!

Okay. first of all, make sure the modules you have really are SoftStart.
The simple test is to use a remote (either a PalmPad, or a plug-in tabletop controller) to turn the lamp on. You can also use the "local control" by turning the switch on the lamp itself off, then back on. Any of those should turn the lamp on. Watch it as it turns on. If it "ramps up" over a second or two to full brightness, then it is SoftStart. If it goes right to full brightness immediately, then it is NOT SoftStart.
Once you have confirmed the module type, you need to see if you have signal issues with your X10 setup.
Define the lamp as an Appliance module first (you'll only have on and off, no dimming). Make sure you can control it directly from the CM15A with the software (turn it on, make sure it comes on, turn it off, make sure it goes off). Once you have confirmed that works, THEN re-define it as a Lamp module (from the "Lamps" category for SoftStart, or from the "Old Lamps - no SoftStart" category for non-softstart), and see how it goes.

Yes - They are soft start as they do ramp up even with the old commands. I just don't know why it doesn't work when you ID them normally.

What do you mean by "ID them normally"?
What shows up in your Activity Monitor when you try to set them as the correct modules from the "Lamps" category, and try to turn them on?
You might also try turning them on, dimming them partway, and then bringing them back to full brightness before turning them off. AHP has an issue with a dimmed level "sticking," and then bringing the modules back on in a dimmed state with an "on" command.

I have an old SmartHome repeater that plugs into the dryer plug. Has that been reported a problem with the new SoftStart module?
