Title: X10 Appliance module chatter
Post by: Emerogork on December 08, 2011, 02:36:10 PM
When I  activate an X1- Appliance module it immediately clicks 4 times quickly.  It does this even with a load. I understand there is a fix for this.

I also hear there are many clever changes that can be made electronically to get these things to do neat stuff.
Is there a chat for this?

Is there a repair trouble shooting guide to repair these things? Schematic?

Is the module a new one or an older one that just starting to chatter?

Chattering with no load is not going to be fixed by any of our standard thing to try.

It means the module is broken. Either the switch is broken and not physically going On and Off or the On or Off sensor electronics has failed.

If it is an older one that is not the CFL friendly one with a surface mounted controller on the solder side of the PCB. There is some data here.
Including some photos of the ratchet switch that is also used in the CFL friendly one. Even though the electronics are different.

I have taken apart a few of the new CFL friendly one and may have some information if you have a specific question.

Special thanks for the insights...

I think I have the older old ones...  They are dark brown wit the thumb wheel switches.
I got them from the DAK catalog, appreciate that....

I have some of the older  white ones that require a small screw driver to change the settings.
Why did they make that change, now I have to go looking for a tool every time I relocate a module... )-:

DAK. I have not dealt with them in a real long time.

Dark Brown. They are old.

Can't say why they went to dials. The some of the ones they made for Radio Shack and Black and Decker. Had knobs with finger grips. No tools needed.

I, too, was a Dakonian.  I'm thinking the brown modules were BSR.  Drew was in love with all things BSR.

Does DAK still sell x10 stuff?  I did a quick ASK search and found the DAK site but couldn't find anything  related to X10.  BTW  DAK was also the initials of a high school friend of mine, David A. Kingston in Baltimore in the Swinging Sixties.

No way!!  :)%

Like Knight, I bought much from Mr. Kaplan. I still have a few Regency Regulator modules from DAK. The "Regulator" system by the CB radio maker "Regency" had 100 House Codes and 100 Unit Codes with the first 16 being compatible with X10.

If DAK is back in business, X10 should be worried.

He's been back for over a decade, most of what he sells is that old as well. He still has the same anouncement that he's back on the website, from 1999!Not much for X10 to worry about.

yeah, it all kinda has the appearance of crap, but with DAK's signature promotional propaganda.

e-e-e-u-u-w that's ugly. That's got more ugly than the old "porn lite" X10 site.
