Seems the DOE has decided some other types of lamps should also be baned or redesigned to meet the new standard.
Like many T12 Fluorescent bulb lengths and many of the PAR Halogen ones.

Oh, that is great! Here I installed all 34W T12 fixtures with magnetic ballasts in the utility spaces to avoid any X10 interference. There are at least a dozen fixtures in several storage rooms, the utility room, my workshop, and the garage. I doubt that most are on even 10 hours a year. The garage and workshop are probably on less than 100 hours a year. So now all of these fixtures will have to be replaced by new ones with noisemaking electronic ballasts? $$$!

The electric company actually PAID us to change them out at work (t12, magnetic). Funny thing is, the electronic ones (about 18 months old) are starting to fail. We had magnetic ballasts that lasted for over 15 years. In fact, I have to go in early tomorrow to change out 3.

Sure, the regime has to do something to lessen the load on the grid as they take down coal plants whether they be clean gassification plants or not. Come on November!
