Title: SR227 Problem

All of sudden my SR277 receptacles are hot top and bottom and I can't turn them on or off with the remote. 
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Typically when things stop to function all of a sudden, it has to do with something changing on the home.  Things to look for include:

New computer equipment
New DC adapters (cell phone chargers)
New TV or other appliance that never fully turns off
Failing fluorescent ballast or CFL bulb

There could be other issues, but these are the most common.

You may want to cycle the power to the SR227 Off for a minute and then power it back up.
If the control electronics where confused. A power cycle reset may help.

If it is much hotter than you remember.
Verify the load is not to large for the module to handle.
Much hotter than normal could also indicate a internal failure inside the SR227. Causing it to be too hot and not responding to commands.
In that case replacement is the best option.

Another indication of an electronics failure. Would be a odd burning smell of over heated electronic components.

By hot top and bottom, I think the original poster means the power is there, not temperature.  My first guess would be that little plastic piece that ratchets the relay on and off has snapped.  That happened to one of mine years ago.

Oh, one other thing.  I use these outside in "weatherproof" boxes.  One of these boxes wasn't so weatherproof at my old house and I found that moisture made it stop working.  I uninstalled that module and brought it inside to dry out then reinstalled with a better box.  It worked fine once more.  Obviously, this is a problem for more than just reliability!

OH yes. If the outlet is always On. The plastic piece is frequently broken.
I would think. You may hear the ratchet switch clunk a few times as it tried to go On or Off.

Thanks for all the advice..And yes by 'hot' I meant that both bottom and top outlets are on.
I will try all that you have recommended...

Mystery solved...The battery in the remote was dead. Replaced it and everything is working fine.
