Title: Not sure what to do now
Post by: cj4331 on March 15, 2020, 12:54:14 PM
I got into X10 in the late 2000s.  I was quite automated but after that old X10.com web site with all the cheap deals and the girly ads was gone, things started breaking.

By 2017 the only thing I still relied on as a motion sensor/photocell to turn on a couple of lights in the house when it gets dark outside and an RF remote to turn the lights after I get in the bed.  Now the motion sensor/photocell has stopped working so I have to turn the lights on myself.

I can't find anything in the new home automation world that would give me that functionality  I don't wish to use my phone from bed to turn the lights off and I don't wish to shout Alexa turn the lights off.  Also, none of the new stuff seems to have photocell functionality--they can turn it on at dusk but it doesn't vary by cloud cover, rain, etc--just day of year.

I kinda would like to go modern now.  Any ideas?

It is relatively easy to intergrate x10 with newer HA devices. A CM15 or CM19, a inexpensive pi board and some free software. I control several different protocols wirh my x10 remote and the PiX10Hub now but I had been doing that prior to getting a Pi board. Authinx still carries many X10 mdules which have been enhanced. The route you go depends on what you wish to do. If you just want some basic light control the options are endless.

X10 still sells two versions of the motion sensors.

That would give you back your original functionality.

I have been using a timer similar to this one for decades. https://www.x10.com/kitmt14astarter.html

Any of the "Eye" sensors (https://www.x10.com/x10-home-automation/ms16a.html) will work for daylight/dark sensing.
