Title: Noisy Laptop Power Supply

I know I have read about the solution for
this problem but I forgot where I read it
and what it said. My wife’s laptop’s power
supply takes down the entire kitchen and
dining room when it is plugged in. It is
obvious that this is the cause because I
can take my Palm pad and hold the A-6 off
button down and the cabinet lights stay on
until I un-plug the ac cord to the laptop.
The second I unplug it the command goes
through. She has had this laptop for a few
years and I never had a problem until a
month or two ago. I’m not sure if I should
filter it or replace it. I have found
several filters online but I want the most
effective solution for the most reasonable
price.

Put a filter on the laptop.  Every laptop I
have ever owned dropped the X10 signal to the
point it was unusable.  The same is true for
APC UPSs.
The problem is not noise being generated by
the laptop power supply.  The laptop power
supply is almost a dead short for the X10 signal.

Get a filter designed to block X10 signal
noise. Some generic filters may actually
make the problem worse.

Russ:  I agree with Murphy and Brian and
plugging your laptop into a noise filter
should solve your problem.  One of the best

What's up with the noisy power supply on a
Gateway Notebook ? Sounds like a booster
rocket..... Also fans on the notebook kick
in every now and then ....
