Title: Polling function not working
Post by: neil matthews on December 13, 2004, 04:32:32 AM
I've tried using the polling function (with
an RR501) but have had no success. It
simply doesn't work! (I can switch it
on/off, it's just the polling that doesn't
work)Any ideas? Anyone else had any success
(or failure!) using the poll function?

I am getting the same thing on mine (RR501
w/ AHP 3.173)

I think polling only works with 2-way
modules.  Have you been using it with the
correct 2 ways?  I know it does not work
with my 2-way Switchlincs, but it wasn't
designed to work with those...

AHP mistakes the RR501 for a 2-way extended
code appliance module like the AM14A.

AHP polls the RR501 with the extended status
request appropriate to a 2-way extended code
module when it should instead be polling with
a standard status request.

Charles Sullivan is right (he pointed this
out to us originally). We should have this
fixed in an update soon.

I've noticed that polling doesn't work,
either.  AHP should have a function that
tells us whether a given module supports
polling or not.  Also - why are we limited
to one house code for polling?  I would like
for AHP to *accurately* reflect the status
of devices every time it is started -
regardless of the housecode.  It would be
optimal for this polling function to happen
on multiple threads, so as not to slow the
UI down.

The availablilty of the Poll command/button
depends on the definition of a module in
ActiveHome Pro. Only the RR501, PR511, LM14A,
and AM15A support the poll functions, so only
those get the poll button. You can poll a
module on any address.

Polling is different from the Monitored House
Code, which is the single house code that the
interface hardware can track when not
connected to the PC.

Ok, so if the monitored house code can be
tracked, then why doesn't AHP show the
results of that 'tracking' when you start
it up?  I've got all of my exterior lights
on the same house code (E), and that is
code I am tracking, but when I start up
AHP, all of my switches show 'off' even if
they have been turned on right before
exiting the software.  Isn't
this 'updating' of switch status in the AHP
user interface is what the monitored house
code is supposed to do?  If not, I'm
confused, and the help file w/ AHP needs to
be clarified.

If that is the case (and I'm beginnging to
think it is) then is the only way to
have 'correct' status of all non 2-way
devices to leave AHP running at all times?
