My Daughter's purse was recently snatched as
she walked across a parking lot. In her purse
was her Keychain remote for our X10 system,
along with all her ID telling the bad guys
where we live. Fortunately, her car and house
keys were in her hand, so the bums didn't
gain total access to the house, but I am
concerned with their ability to disarm my
system. Do I need to erase everything in the
system memory and reregister all the sensors
and remotes?
-
Yes - do it immediately
-
Am I correct that pulling the plug on the
control unit and removing the backup battery
will totally erase all the memory?
What are the chances that one of my new
remotes (5) will reinstall with the same code
as the stolen remote?
Thanks for any replies.
-
when you install the remote's they should
all be at a random RF signal. The chances of
a match to the stolen remote is pretty slim.
-
Only the remotes you reprogram will be responded by the
console, maybe you should purchase some cameras now.
-
Cameras? What does that have to do with a
stolen remote? Sorry, I really don't have any
use for cameras.
I do see however that once I have cleared the
base unit and reinstalled all sensors and
remotes the stolen remote will be usless to
anyone trying to use it as it has not been
installed.
Thanks for the help.

Well I only suggested it because you said
your daughters purse got stolen with your
home address, and if the theives were to
come to your house you will be able to
catch there images on tape if you
recorded.
-
That is a good question. Is the random code
1 in 10 or 1 in 100 or 1 in 1000? where
are the specs on this?
-
I have not seen that recently, but I
remember the early systems had 256 random
codes. Many years ago, they increased that to
65536 random codes.
Since the codes are generated at random,
someone cannot count on hitting the right
combination quickly by testing repeatedly.

we have had our system for 4 yrs. Both our
keychain remotes have broken with time.
Where can we buy just new romotes ?
-
Donna:
You can buy them here. A better buy would be
on ebay though. I have found everthing x10
sells on ebay, and at a better price. Unless
you need 3 of one item. I was able to
purchase 3 for 1 price on remotes going
through the order sales people here.
