Title: Radio Shack 49-1000
Post by: chris on July 10, 2005, 11:27:24 PM
Well, after reading all of the posts here I
am wondering if I should buy this RS 49-
1000 wireless system. Especially, since I
do not live in the US and thus would be
hard pressed to return it.  What do you
guys recommend? Does the thing basically
work ?? Or am I in for stress ?  Thanks!

Go with another system! Mine is a constant
worry. You get NO support from X-10.

I have it installed and it works fine.  It
is compatible with the DS10/MS10 sensors
(cheap), and seems very reliable.

Only thing is Powehorn Sirens and third
party ones like the Sonic SS-300. They don't
work correctly with the 49-1000. Also it is
120 Volts only if your country is 220 Volts
that could be a problem. Yes the X10 sensors
work with the 49-1000 and the RS sensors
will with the DS7000.

1000 got it home found out it does not
work. called service dep of radioshack
alarm division and the man told me that in
one to two months that they will becoming
out with a compatible out door and indoor
siren for 49-1000

So the powerhorn PSH02 is NOT compatible with the radio
shack unit?

Has that changed at all now? Did RS bring out a
compatible device?

Also, does the x-10 unit, sold with all the security stuff on
x10.com, work with the powerhorn (Im assuming it does).

None of the X10 pr X10 Pro Powerhorns work
with the Radio Shack 49-1000 consoles. They
did with the Older Radio Shack consoles
[PN:?] Also work fine with the X10 DS7000
units. Someone has reported that Radio Shack
maybe offering one the is compatible but
have not seen any messages about it being
avilable.

49-1000 works well with its sensors, so far
(I have it for 1 month and tested much of
the features and sensors).  lamp module x10
is compatible with 49-1000.

I am having trouble with my Radio Shack 49-
100. Zones frequently go out of zone and the
console will not recognise them after that.
I can not even get two sensors registered
even after leaving that batteries out of
them.

I guess they had a batch defective (10A04?)
of consoles and supposedly fixed it.

All  I know is I am looking here for a
solution since the RS Help guy said it was
an X-10 product and the phone# he gave for X-
10 does not work.

My other beef, getting constantly redirected
to the UK X-10 site.

for the 49-1000, you may have to clear all
sensors (see instruction) and then re-
register the sensors for them to work
initially.
Title: Re: Radio Shack 49-1000
Post by: john brown on August 12, 2005, 08:58:41 AM
I have cleared all sensors, done a master
reset, then left it unplugged with the
batteries out for over an hour (not sure
this really did anything). I even tried a
different console.

Then I registered the sensors according to
the instructions given on the Radio Shack
help line.

Put batteries into one sensor at a time,
register it with the unit, then take the
batteries out, and move to the next sensor.

This seems to go against the procedure
listed in the manual and it seemed to work
for a while.

But, out of seven sensors, four of them this
morning are flashing on the console. So, I
guess I have to return this boondoggle.

OH That does sound wrong. Removing the
batteries may cause the sensor to reset with
a different security code when the batteries
are again installed. That would cause a
previously learned sensor to be missing in
action whan it is expected to report in.

I do beleive that you are correct with
the "Bad Batch" thing.. The motion sensor
included with the 49-000 keeped refusing to
report to the console, so I called radio
shack, and the lady on the phone told me to
read her a number on the bottom of the
sensor, and she said that they should have
worked the "bugs" meaning the same problem
I was having - out of that specific motion
detector.. But I asked her what should I
do.. and she said just call your local
radio shack, and ask if you could return
it... The mad said yes, and he just
exchanged it... :) even after it being out
of the 90days waranty.. I love my alarm,
but I hope my sh10a works... :)& :(

Unless R.S. and X10 [OEM for R.S.] have done
some changes in the 49-1000. The SH10A and
PH508 will not work with the console.

The Radio Shack guy said the date code
(think it was either 10a04 or 11a04) had
been recalled as defective.

Hey, John Brown.. What was recalled.. the
console itself? Write back.. Leo

He had me check the back of the console, so
I imagine the console or the whole package.

So, what you are saying is that Radioshack
made changes that now accept the X10
Powerhorns? Becuase I talked to a
radioshack guy about my Motion detector,
and he said that this is one of the newer
editions of this unit, but it may have
gotten mixed up with the old ones...

Well just wondering...

Leo; Hope that thay did a fix for the
Powerhorns. Let us know one way or the
other. My thoughts are if it still sends the
ON OFF cycle to the two security lamp codes
the powerhorn may still not respond.

Alright everyone.. After I get my powerhorn
tomorrow from Fedex, I will surely post a
message about my results...

Hi, i called Radio shack and was on the
phone with tree different people and they
said there are no recalls on the 49-1000
system or the motion dectors. and there is
no fix for the x10 sirens they still are not
compatible with Secuurity systm 49-1000. in
1-2 months they are comeing out with a
compatible out door or indoor sirens.

That is about what I had read about the
Powerhorns. Can't say about the sensors or a
recall. They may not want to admit that any
where bad or needed a recall, unless pressed.
I have also found different employees give a
different story on questions.

I am facing exactly the same problem (the
motion sensors not reporting to the
console). And you are saying that all
sensors belonging to that specific batch
are defective?

Unfortunately, I bought the whole kit with
extra motion sensors when I were in the US,
and now I am back home in Saudi Arabia.
There is no support what so ever here.
Title: Re: Radio Shack 49-1000
Post by: john brown on September 15, 2005, 10:56:03 AM
The only setup I have managed to get to work
is only three motion sensors and only four
window switches. Anything more and things do
not report and there is no way to register
them except clearing everything (console and
sensors) by unplugging and taking the
batteries out.

Then yoo have two or more sensors go out of
zone in a short period of time and there is
no way to reregister them except by taking
down the whole system and starting over.

As it is set up now, single window switches
still go out and have to be reregistered
once a month, but, I can usually do it
without taking the whole system down.

Worse, you can not by-pass a defective zone
as per the instructions. You can usually
clear it by multiple arm/disarms though.

I returned all the accesories and two kits.
I kept one kit for now, I am going to go
hardwired on the replacement system.

49-1000 = unreliable

The 49-1000 is a piece of junk. I have had
three. The first one failed in 4 months. The
second was dead out of the box. I installed
a third one and after the second test, it
will no longer respond!

Trash!!! Don't touch it!!
Title: Re: Radio Shack 49-1000
Post by: john brown on September 26, 2005, 07:07:48 PM
I would like to add that is two motion
sensors and four door switches. I returned
the third one because I could notamke it
work properly all the time. It would just go
to la-la land and not register anymore.

To get my most errant sensor registered, I
have to go to the sensor with the console
and then open the window or door. On a
straight line, it is less then 25 feet away
in a floor below and the floor is only
plywood and a rug.

I wonder what the exact difference there is
between the 49-1000 and DS-7000? I was
seriously considering the X-10 version
instead of this, but, I think I might just
go hardwire instead.

systems?

If so, I will get one.

Thanks all! I was considering buying a RS 49-
1000..... but now am not! I left my old RS
Security System Console with the house I
sold and was seriously considering buying
the new RS system for my new house..... but
of course now am not. I guess I'll get the
standard DS7000 or simular device.

I believe the older RS unit was a White
version [or very close] of the DS7000.
