Title: Help wiht 4-way switches (3 switches for 1 light)
Post by: larry on December 11, 2005, 10:30:46 AM
I am trying to install X10 switches on a 4-
way application using PLW02 and PCW03.
Currently, I have 1 switch that has 4 wires
attached (not including ground), and the
other 2 switches have 3 wires.  I have done
3-way installations before, but this 4 way
is very confusing.  The directions hint at
a 4-way installation, but I have no idea
what to do with the 4th wire on the 1st
switch.  HELP!

To do 4-way, you need qty two of the
thin "remote" switches and qty 1 of the
three-way X10 switches that has the
house/unit code switches on it.

The two blue wires on the remote switches
are connected to each other inside the
switch, so it doesn't matter which you use,
or just connect both if that's easier.

You have to replace all 3 of your existing
switches to make the X10 work.

For the "extra" remote switch, you can
substitute a momentary-contact (pushbutton
type) switch as long as it's rated for high
enough voltage.

If you still need help, email me at x10-
temporary@agrog.com and we can "talk" about
your particular configuration and colored
wires.

I have the same problem and I have replaced 2 of the switches. But the 3rd switch says 4-way on it and it looks like this:

                 red wire  XXXXX   red wire
                               X  S X
                               X W X
                               X  I  X
                               X  T X
                               X  C X
                               X  H X
              black wire  XXXXX   black wire

So I have 4 wires to connect to the 3 wires of the companion switch - how??

Look at the "4 way wiring diagram" under the "Home Automation" catagory/column.
You need a second companion switch.

The links to the 4-way wiring diagram don't seem to work. On both links (primary and aletnate) I get an error "425 - failed to establish connection"...

What version of Firefox?  I use Firefox as my primary browser and all the links opened a new window in Firefox.

I use 3.08, but I have also other issues with it so I guess that the link did not open was a problem of my installation ....

Upgrade Firefox to 3.0.9 via the "check for upgrades" under Help.
