With no other details....

1 Universal module to either
fully "activate" the HVAC at some preset
temp, or you could wire it to close a "set
back" thermostat loop if you left the HVAC
always energized at some temperature to
prevent freezing etc.
and 1 Telephone responder to answer the
phone and accept X10 inputs.
If you want to adjust the temperature
remotely it gets more complicated...is that
your ambition? Check www.smarthome.com for
thermostats that can adjust temperature
based on received X10 codes.

Good Evening,

Smart design dictates that there be a redundant thermostat that is always active to maintain a minimum or maximum in the house.  Then as you find out that x10 is good but not 100% you can sleep.  You can simply parallel the contacts between the remote and the redundant thermostat.  Also think what would happen if the remote stuck in either on or off, it will we just do not know when, that is why the two thermostats.
