X10 needs to be a corporate player and
provide support for third party devices such
as Smarthome's switchlinc, keypadlinc &
lamplinc modules. Also they need to provide
a complete x10 command SDK so that the CM15A
can be supported by third party software
such as HomeSeer.
The CM15a could be a very good product, but
as it stands it is pretty much usless unless
you are using all x10 brand devices.

The cm15a is junk. Look at all the forum
problems. X10 would even respond to
repeated attempts for help from their
customer base. I am going to pursue a class
action lawsuit, it is absolutely
irresponsible that x10 should be allowed to
sell this junk without support on how to fix
it.

Hi,
I agree on the part about support. That
seems to be slow on this forum. The email
support worked well for me in the past.
As far as it being 'junk', I wouldn't agree
100%. The cameras and motion detectors work
well. I had trouble getting the iWitness
software up and running at the beginning.
After some pains, my system has been doing
what I expected it to do for about six
months now, without problems.

Having owned the CM15a with AHP and jumping
ship to the Smarthome 1132CU
running "Smarthome Manager Plus" , I can
tell you the 1132CU with SMP ain't all its
cracked up to be either. Contrary to X10
bashing opinions I have seen on this forum,
Smarthome is certainly not the well oiled
customer support organization, manufacturing
Six Sigma products. The Smarthome software
is as filled with problems as AHP. The only
difference is Smarthome at least gives you
the program on CD, so if you have a hard
drive crash, you do not have to go through
the pain of proving ownership to
get "permission" to download and reinstall
the program you paid for. My $.02

There's no way you can honestly say
Smarthome's Manager Plus software has as
many glitches as AHP. SMP may display the
wrong icon next to a macro now and again,
but that doesn't cause the interface to lock
up.

To be fair...
I use (yes, the world is not perfect) both
the CM15A and the 'SmartHome' 1132CU
controllers. I spent the extra money so that
I could work with temperature sensing
devices supported by the 1132CU.
The only catch is that if you want to
capture video, SmartHome won't do it. I
asked them, they said "no". I did buy a
capture device and software, from the
SmartHome web site. That was a $180 mistake.
I learned, from that, that is is possible to
repeatibly crash a WinXp system with
criminally defective hardware / software.
The 1132CU is more stable, has more memory,
and has more 'tweakable' software. Its is
more expensive than the CM15A. The 1132CU
does not support video.
The only inexpensive way to reliably capture
video (on X10 comands) is with the CM15A and
(currently) iWitness.
