Title: Looking for the Data Sheet for the IC in Maxi Controller Model SC503
Post by: bp41 on March 01, 2006, 04:48:36 PM
My maxi controller model sc503 quit working.  The osc. is generating the 120KHz but it isn't getting on the line.  Does anyone know where I can get the data sheet for the IC # F78542 so I can scope it?

Good Evening,

Sounds like it is a PIC microprocessor, I do not have the module so I am only guessing.  The data sheets for them are available on line.

Hope that helps.

I believe the F78542 is the X10 part number and not the PIC part number. If the 120KHz is being generated the powerline transmitter transistor maybe bad. Will look and see if I can find a schematic.
I don't have some of the X10 related third party links handy right now. There is a thread here on such sites. IdoBartina's site has all kinds of mods and schematics. Will post tonight if you don't find it by then.

Considering that the SC503 can be bought new on eBay for $15, including shipping, is it really worth tyring to diagnose a failure?

I believe that is a custom IC available only from X10.  They come already packaged in a Maxicontroller.

For some people the challenge is what's important.

X-10 is still offering SC503's at TWO for $15 + $6 S&H.   With two, the OP could extract the IC to repair his old SC503 and still have a spare unit in reserve.  ;)

Hey Chuck, Jeff, Brian, you are putting a lot of effort into a post that is 18 months old...did you fall into a "follow the leader" game with Gil, or or are you just getting "on the record"? :D

You left out: "Incrementing my Total Post Count attempting to catch up to Brian H." :o :D

I'm like the DS10A Door/Window Sensor - I periodically send a message to indicate I'm still alive.   :)

Ah, I thought it was a new post.  I usually catch when Gil's response was to an old post, but missed this one.
