Title: Wall switch problem
Post by: loney c on March 04, 2006, 12:45:06 PM
I have a problem with a wall switch that will receive an on command but won't receive an off.

The problem stops if I take the cover plate off.  It is in a three gang box with two other switches.  The box is metal which I'm wondering if that causes a problem or not.

Let me know if anyone else has run into this.

Are all three switches X10?  I am having an issue in which one switch out three will respond to the on command but not the off command.

All 3 switches are X10.  Got two from Fryes and 1 from Home Depot.  And it works great as long as the cover to the box is off.  Very strange.

Try this.

Cover the inside of the cover plate with electrical tape and put it back on.  Then try the wall switch modules. If it works, either leave the cover alone or replace it with a plastic one.

As an aside, where do you live. In the Baltimore metro area, neither Home Depot or Lowe's carry X10 any more.

I'll give it a try and let you know.  Thank you.

I live in Pahrump, NV  just out of Las Vegas.  I know X-10 switches at least are made in North Las Vegas.  I've only noticed that Home Depot has been carying them recently.  Frye's Electronics also carries them.
