Title: Some Help please. Which x10 do i need?
Post by: dchou on August 02, 2006, 01:37:18 PM
I have an outlet up on my garage ceiling. The garage door opener is connect to one of the ceiling outlets and I want to connect a fluorescent shop light to the other outlet. I know I need the SuperSocket Receptacle (SR227) so I can have the always live outlet for the garage opener. My question is what x10 wall switch do I need to be able to control the SuperSocket Receptacle?

Thanks,
Dave

The answer is none.  An SR227 is a double outlet with the one outlet X10 controlled and the other always live. If you don't want to invest in a control program like Active Home Pro, the easiest solution is to plug a MC460 Desktop Controler into the other or any other outlet in the room. Set the MC460 to address Housecode A and the SR227 to address A1.

Does the SuperSocket Receptacle have a local control option like appliance modules and will he have problems controlling a fluorescent light with it?

I believe he said the fluorescent shop light would be plugged to the other outlet, not the controlled one.  Since the SR227 is an appliance module, the fluorescent light could be plugged into the controled outlet as appliance modules do not dim.

Typically a garage door opener needs a non controlled outlet so my deduction was that he planned to control the fluorescent light.

dchou: Will you clarify what you want to do?

As Dan suggests, the MC460 is an inexpensive wired controller which will remotly control your light. If you do desire a wall style switch you could use the "wireless wall switches" such as the "Stick-A-Switch" There are also Palm Pads and Key Chain remotes available.
