Title: X10 and AUSTRALIA

Hi all,

greets from the land downunder.  I have a question that I hope you all can help with.  Quite apart from the voltage differences can the x10 products purchased in the US, in particular the HR12A and the MS16A, will they work in Australia with the CM12AU (PC Interface) but more in particular the TM13AU (RF transceiver)

ANY HELP would be greately appreciated ..

What's the voltage there?  X10 equipment sold in the US and Canada is built for 120volts, 60 HZ. 

X10 Europe www.x10europe.com  might be your best bet.

The USA model RF transmitters like HR12A and MS16A use a frequency of 310 MHz.  Transceivers sold for the UK and continental Europe operate at 433 MHz and are incompatible, and I suspect Australian model transceivers are different from 310 MHz as well.

Some people have had success in modifying a 240V->120V stepdown transformer ("travel voltage converter") to pass X10 signals from secondary to primary and use it with a USA model RF transceiver like the TM751 or RR501.  The X10 powerline signals are the same regardless of the transceiver.

Thanks heaps guys, I suspected that they may operate at different Freq's.  Thats a pain as the North American prices are soooooo much cheaper than here in AUS...

Heres a thought, can we modify the north american units to op at 433Mhz ???

You can also look to home automation Australia (http://www.smarthome.com.au/) directly, saves on plenty of modification  ;D
