Title: cm15a vs cm11a questions
Post by: 3_jeeps on December 04, 2006, 10:22:36 PM
Hi:

I've been using a CM11A and have experienced and documented several of its 'failure features'...(e.g. total lockup, pc-cm11a communication lockup, dropping commands, etc.).  Seems like the engineer(s) released a half-baked product (or worse - but I won't elaborate).  I have questions wrt the cm15a vs the cm11a:

1) Do the failures of the cm11 referenced above still exist in the cm15a? (the fact that is is USB communications does not automatically mean that the communication problems have been solved)
2.) What failure modes (if any) does the cm15a have?
3.) Has a version of the cm11a ever been released that solves the above referenced problems? if so, how do I tell a 'new' version from the 'old' version?

I am assuming that the PC software (Home Automation) that communicates to the CM11A is working OK - if this is a bad assumption, has the software been updated?  Version number?  I am using the version that is currently on the X10 site as the latest (to bad they didn't put a release date on it...)
The frankness of  your answers is appreciated.

Thanks
John

WAF Factor of Upgrade From CM11A to CM15A is *VERY* LOW - (P.S. Me Too!)  (Read 2914 times) (http://www.x10community.com/forums/index.php?topic=9731.0)

I don't believe Active Home Software for the CM11A has been updated in a few years. Also some have had problems [me included] getting it to be nice with XP. My case constant com  failures. Got slightly better by telling XP to use compatibility mode for 98SE/ME

The last version of Active Home is 1.42.

Other than the recent "RCA Brand" CM11A that X10 was selling via the Bandit, Active Home and the CM11A are no longer being advertised or sold by X10.

Thanks for  your reply.....seems as if there are both hw and sw problems.  Sigh...give anybody a Visual Basic book and a $500 computer and they automatically seem to become 'software engineers'....Of course, building on a brain damaged OS like Windoz doesn't help.  Next option...Anybody have knowledge of drivers and/or applications that run under Linux, the open source community generally does a better job.  Again, thanks for your replies.

For operating a CM11A under Linux, Unix, or Mac OS X, take a look at Heyu (http://www.heyu.org)

Beats any other CM11A software hands down 100%.

Of course I may be biased since I'm the developer. :)

Sh*t,

Surely some of the best here. Next thing you know DH will show up.

(But he would probably just yell at everyone.)

Thanks for all.
