Title: Use wired cameras with wireless transmitter and keep PTZ Functions
Post by: Electrosnoop on December 07, 2006, 08:03:20 PM
I have a client with an unusual application. An apartment complex with 10 buildings and would like to put cameras on each building but doesn't want the mess or expense of running cable since some buildings are 2000' feet from office.  I have found several wireless transmitters in the 2.4 ghz range that will meet my range requirements however, I am concerned about losing the  PTZ functionality with the non x-10 wireless transmitters.  If anyone has any information I would greatly appreciate it.

Camera Type.  X-10 Sentinel  http://www.x10sentinel.com/multi-8cam-wired.html
Transmitter VCT DXR2400  http://www.northernvideo.com/specsheet/VCT_DXR2400.pdf

I don't think you can get there from here.

All X10 PTZ's are short range, wireless, designed to be used with one of the X10 wireless remote controls.

They do not have RS232 etc. ports for your DXR2400.

I agree with dave w.

The X10 idea is not worth researching. Been there, done that..

Look at PTZ cams that support Wireless lan (802.11 b/g) capabilities. The only issue will have to resolve is the distance issue as wireless lans are typically only good for 300-500 ft. (Depending on the conditions).  [There are wireless lan extenders available]

Also, this will not be cheap, but at least you will be able to retain PTZ functions, and if connected to the Internet, do remote monitoring.
