It only takes 10 posts to upgrade past the term Newbie
There are over 88 pages of members with the status Newbie that have never posted or posted but the posts were deleted because of context!
I don't think voting counts as a post so if you never want to grow up you can still vote just don't follow it with a post! ;) :D ;D
We were all "Newbies" once!

Excellent point. I think NEWBIE is more desireable than *bleep*...

I can't figure out why are we concerned about what people "feel" about the term "NEWBIE". It is a descriptive termand not derogatory.

I can't see the term Newbie going away anytime soon, but it is interesting to find out if people don't want to post and see themselves labelled a Newbie.

Maybe they don't realize it's only a temporary label for their first 9 posts. That's less than 2 days. ::) :D

now if you call someone a newbie with the intent of calling them a noob, then I can see that as beeing offensive.

It is intended to be another means to maybe find out why people join and don't ever post. There could be some reasons why this is done, one that comes to mind is that as a member you can review new unread messages without weeding through the list. I'm sure there are others.

Those that don't like the banner "NEWBIE" under their User id should speak up!
This can be easily changed to something else, it only reflects your membership status, it in no way describes one as green to X10!
Most new users state in their first post if they are new to x10 or not! ;) :D ;D
If the don't like the term votes are high we can get it changed to something like "New Member"or "Beginner",You decide! Another poll can be created with the choices, the winner getting the title!
Warning: "once one posts their 10th post they lose that banner and move on!" ;) :D ;D
KDR and my self were just wondering if this was one of the reasons so many join but never post! ::) ???
(just one of the many things we chat about on Yahoo) ;) :D ;D
The more people posting the more valuable information this forum will hold! ;) :)

I attribute that to the fact that most of the info I want can be found by searching, and the fact that I usually don't purchase there newer items as they are released. I don't mind the term, you'll all figure out who I am and what I know as I post and the title will come to mean nothing.

One possible answer to the non-posting newbie.
It takes a little time to figure out who's who. Finding the spell checked helped.
Also you don't want to offend those who are hopefully going to help you get this stuff to work.

Believe me, I work with this same kind of stuff everyday.
X10 is a lot harder to make work, mostly because the software works differently than you would expect.
I will tell you absolutely there is no way I would be able to make AHP work without this site.
I would have been frustrated long ago and walked away.

So if you want to call me a newbie go right ahead, I wear the title as a badge of honer.
It also allows me to ask Really dumb questions and get away with it.

I was also wondering how long it was going to take before I became something other than an newbie.
I stayed logged in for a couple of hours the other night while I was watching TV hoped it was a time thing.
I haven't gone looking for the rules and regs yet, just trying to get AHP working.
Where can I find things like that.

I am just happy to find a forum for reference to my X10 questions. In addition, everyone here seems to be very good about offering their years of expertice to the newbies, so hey call me what you want as long as I can use the forum. Thank you to everyone who has answered my newbie questions in the past ;D
