Title: XCam2 wireless camera modification - question
Post by: Valkyr on February 17, 2007, 06:16:25 PM
Is this workable?

I want to mount the camera outside and the antenna inside.

I would cut the camera wire (in the middle) on the original XCam2 base and remove the camera.
With a second XCam2 base, I'd gut it and mount the camera to it.
Splice a longer wire to camera mounted on gutted base (on the outsided wall) to wire left on original base (mounted on inside wall). The splice would only be about 2 to 4 feet long.

This is an alternative to removing the antenna from existing base, extending that cable and mounting just the antenna inside on my own fabricated base.

Which is better (easier)?

Thanks,
Joe V.

Joe, I have read somewhere here on the forum of an antenna modification, though I have never had a need to do so myself. You can likely find it with a little searching.

Why do you want to move the antenna?

Transmission of signal from outside garage is poor. Inside garage is great. Brick wall must be interfering, as well as being 50' from receiver.

I'll try search again.

I would like too get better receptions with my cameras.  I have 6 cameras, and sometimes i get signal just from 2 of them.  Maybe the software of activehome is bad, because before installing the 6, I have signal of 4 cameras with no problem, when I swith between them, I only get the signal of the one that is closer.  I would like to get better signal, and scanning without cutting cables or modifing.  Maybe with two different receivers in different places of my home, trying to make a bridge, improves signal?? ??? ??? ???
