Title: [WTB] X10-compatible Glass Break Sensors
Post by: mienhmario on April 10, 2007, 10:19:54 PM
Does anybody know where i can get glass break sensors that are compatible with X10 protector plus(DS7000)? Or, can someone suggest any reliable glass break sensors at a affortable cost without any hardwire solution? If its not compatible with X10 protector plus, i need something that sounds when someone breaks the windows and triggers all the glass break sensors or it doesnt have to without the need of a main console.

Why not use a wired glass break sensor and wire it to a door/window security sensor in place of the magnetic contact?
Automatedoutlet (http://www.automatedoutlet.com/product.php?productid=251&cat=200&page=1) has many this is just one! ;)

But the link you showed me, arent they ultra sensitive since your attaching it to the window? Earthquakes, trucks, etc.... Cant they trip the alarm? If i used the glass break sensors instead of the magnet, what security will i get if robbers did try to open the window instead of breaking it? Im a newbie if you guys havent known yet!

Well, then you will have to have two sensors on the door - one for "glass break" and one for "open".  Look for a good deal on the window/door sensors at X10.

There are other Glass Break Sensors  (http://www.automatedoutlet.com/home.php?cat=200) at Automatedoutlet read the specs for each to see exactly how they trigger!
If you can't find the specs drop Automatedoutlet an email and they'll supply them! ;)

You can wire both the magnet and the glass break sensor into the same door/windor sensor so either will trigger the alarm! ;) :D ;D You do this as if you were to wire for two magnet sensors!
Pure Genius!

What kind of specs am i looking for? I called them and they said any glass break sensors will work if X10 window/door sensors have 2 inputs, but he said none of the glass break sensors are directly made to work for the X10, so i was stuck since i didnt know what i was asking for. One for the door/window magnets and the other for the glass break sensors! How do you go about installing them? Does the X10 window/door sensor even have two inputs?

First off You want to know what will trigger them vibration, noise,or the actual glass breaking from under them!
Second this is how you will wire it in Adding_A_Switch_To_A_Door/Window_Sensor (http://kbase.x10.com/wiki/Adding A Switch To A Door Sensor)
Just substitute one of the magnet sensors for the glass break sensor!
Still at a loss then get a security expert to set you up! ;) :D ;D

Still at a loss????? I've just finished reading the directions! The window/door sensor actually have another wire inside it or do i have to get my own or cut the original to size? I just need a glass break sensors that will alarm when the window actually breaks! Does it matter what kind of glass breaking sensors i get?

The link you gave me, would it work just fine since im just only looking for glass breaking sensors that only detect glass breaks? Will it trip from trucks when it vibrates the windows?

That you'd have to ask the seller! Not all  glass break sensors work the same. ;) :D ;D
I don't use any myself so I can't recommend a specific one! ::)

Will it still work if i used any of the glass break sensors on ebay(these were the cheapest i found on ebay):
1. http://cgi.ebay.com/SECURITY-SYSTEM-GLASS-BREAK-SENSOR-for-ALL-ALARMS_W0QQitemZ250099636073QQihZ015QQcategoryZ66738QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem
2. http://cgi.ebay.com/INTERNATIONAL-ELECTRONICS-24-HOUR-GLASS-BREAK-DETECTOR_W0QQitemZ6038415910QQihZ009QQcategoryZ20589QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem
3. http://cgi.ebay.com/Window-Bug-Glass-Break-Shock-Sensors-Detectors_W0QQitemZ190080570926QQihZ009QQcategoryZ115940QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem

I've noticed that one or two of them dont have wires from the ebay pictures! Do they suppose to have them like the link you gave me from automatedoutlet.com?

You'll want to e-mail the seller and confirm that the contacts in the sensor are normaly closed  and ask any other information  you feel important(how they trip) Also not all sensors are wired, you need the wires to connect to the door/window module! ;) :D ;D

means attaching the sensor is like connecting the two wires together on the door/window module(disconecting them or opening them sets off the alarm)

The window/door module has two wire comming from it to the magnetic switch.
The wired glass break sensor has two wires comming from it also.
If you want Just the glass break sensor installed connectthe two wires from the module to the two wires from the sensor!
If you want a magnetic switch in combo attach one wire from the glass break to the magnetic switch and one to the module. Connect the other wire from the module to the free terminal on the magnetic switch! ;) :D ;D
In the link I posted the magnetic switches have no wires of there own! hence the extra wire! ;)

Connect one wire from the glass break sensors to the magnet strip? You mean to the magnet sensor that is already connected to the module or the one that is not connected to the module? If it is to the one connected to the module, do i need to unscrew the bottom wire first before connecting it from the glass break sensor? Connect one wire to the module from the glass break sensors? How do you go about doing that? One wire from the module to the free terminal on the magnet sensor? You mean to the other magnet sensor since the one connected to the module is already full! I understand the link you gave me about installing the switch, but then you gave me these instructions which totally confused me. Also, The post you replied back with the link to installing a new switch with the window/door module you said ill be replacing one magnet sensor? How? Confusing!

So from the picture, i connect(twist) the purple wire and the red wire together on the left? I can still put my other magnet sensor side by side with the magnet sensor that is already connected with the window/door module?

Thank you! You've helped me alot. Ill be back if i run into any trouble when installing these. Thanks again! I hope the moderator dont go deleting this topic because i think this can benefit others alot if they were in the market for glass breaking sensors with x10 products.

Anybody know where i can get a noise glass breaking sensor? I found some sensors on ebay, but those work for only one glass pain. It doesnt really make sense to only work for one glass pain since there are two windows in one. Any help will be appreciated! Thank you!

Automatedoutlet has three:Which if any can be wired to the door/window I don't know! ;)
E-mail or call the manufacturers or the seller ;)
Doing a Google search for "Glass break sensors" may turn up more! ;)
If you find one that works for you please post how you've set it up!

I have a question as to all this info posted here.  You say that the Sentrol 5150 will work when attached to a X10 door/window sensor.  Someone in this posting said you can use 1 x10 sensor for the door and THE SAME sensor for the window breakage.  How would that work?  The circuit would still be closed nullifying the window breakage sensor, right?

I think you would need 2 sensors.  One on the door/window for opening and the modified x10 sensor with the sentrol 5150 wired across it.

Am I right?

Both the door sensor and the glass break sensors are normally closed sensors that indicate an alert situation by opening the connection. So by wiring them in series either will open the circuit and trigger the alarm.
