I use my X10 system as a reminder, or alert system.

I retired last year, so I have a lot of time on my hands. I have an ms14a motion sensor setup on my front stoop. Then I plugged in an sc546a inside next to my couch. It's nice because whenever the mailman comes, a friend visits, or the morning paper is delivered I hear the sc546a. That lets me know when I need to get off my butt!  :)

I hope this is the sort of thing your looking for. I'll take pictures and send them soon.

Thanks,

My current project is building a birdhouse, only it's has an X10 camera built in to it as well using the Ninja Robotic mount mounted to the side on top, above a plexi-glass top. Then I can have it placed on my domains website for easy access and veiwing.
Watching nature can be an awesome experience as well as a bit gruesome in some cases. This way I have the means of not only watching, but recording as well.

Title: X10 Idea

My car has a programable "home link" garage door opener built in. I don't have a garage so it is kind of useless but, I discovered that the buttons can learn from X10 palm pads. So I've programmed my car with the on and off codes for my porch light. Now when I leave in the morning and discover that the kids have left the porch light on all night I can turn it off right from the car. And when I get home late at night and no one was considerate enough to leave it on for me, I can turn it on right from the car so that I don't have to play blind man's bluff with my keys and the door knob.

Now for a new product idea! Inductive Dimmer/Appliance Switch. As we know, the standard push button X10 dimmer switches require an incandescent light bulb to work. This is because they draw their power through the lighting circuit. The appliance modules, however, do not work that way. Why not make a push button appliance module switch that looks and fits like the standard X10 dimmer switch. Secondly, A switch with an inductive dimmer that can be used on a ceiling fan would also be great. I know that there are high end decora style switches that do this, but I just don't like the look of decora. the simplest switch could be made by repackaging the RF receiver that has a switch on it. It doesn't need the RF part, just the button and switch so I would think that it would fit.

I use it to cut my outdoor security light power usage in half.  I use the CM15A to turn on outdoor security lights for the first half (approximately) of the night.  I have PV cells located under the lights that charge a battery powered LED based outdoor light. When I turn the lights off with the CM15a, the battery powered lights come on.

I find the screws that support the X10 Windows and door alarms hard to install, and the glue strips that come with the alarms are useless, they do not hold anything. Instead, I buy Velcro strips for general use at our local office store and cut them to fit the alarms. A year later, they are still holding on.

I have a security light at each corner of my home. They are all linked so if one triggers they all trigger.  I also have a transceiver so that if I hear any noises outside at night I can just press the button on my remote control in my key chain and it illuminates my front and back yard. I also have my front and read door post lamps automatically turn on and off at dawn and dusk. Finally my favorite is the fish tank control. I have two appliance modules hooked up to the four lights. 2 of which are blue actinic lights. I use these to grow my corals and keep the fish happy. I simulate dawn and dusk by turning on the blue actinic 30 minutes prior to the daylight bulbs and doing the opposite at night.  I also created a circuit to automatically top off my aquarium when the water goes below a certain level so my pumps don't run dry. I use another appliance module to turn this one on and off.  check it out at  http://www.hectorg.net/pets/aquarium/aquarium.php

I have rope light strings on my car cover. One is in the peak and it lights whenever my security lights turn on. Two other strings are on the side edges of the cover roof that turn on and off by command; I also have rope light strings on my driveway that turn on and off by command. I have both white and red strings of lights across the driveway gate that turn on and off by command. I've written four macros; two for when I arrive at the house and two for when I depart. One of the macros in each set will only operate during dusk to dawn. (That is the fun one to watch.) When I arrive the Always macro turns on certain lights in the house. If it's after dusk the other one also operates and it lights the side light strings and the driveway strings and the red lights on the gate, which is across the driveway; and the front entrance patio light. As I approach I activate the opener and the gates swing open; when they get fully open a magnetic switch trips and activates a universal interface module (set to continuous) which kicks on another macro and the red lights on the gates turn off and the white strings turn on, plus the driveway light strings also come on. I drive in and activate the gate control again and the gates close. The sequence reverses and the drive lights go off and the gate magnetic switch releases, the universal module sends an off command that runs a different macro and the white gate lights go off and red comes on. In the meantime the (dusk to dawn) arrival macro is still running on a timed delay of fifteen minutes when the patio and car cover side lights will turn off, plus three minutes later an inside entry way light and two minutes behind that the main hall lights also go off. I also have a chime that signals when the macro starts, five seconds before the off cycle begins and when it;s finished.

I couldn't live without it either! I use it just about everywhere. I have Activehome Pro and use it to set up schedules and macros and along with all the 'Plug-ins", I have security set up for those things that I wish to be warned about, when someone is into something that they shouldn't be. I have 'My House" installed so that I can log in from anywhere and check all of the cameras around the house. I have the soffit lights set to come on at dusk, dim to 40% and shut off at a set time. I have rope lighting above the kitchen cabinets that comes on shortly after dusk and shuts off around midnight, kind of like a nightlight in the kitchen. I liked it so much I decided to have it come on in the morning and shut off at dawn so that I can see my way around the kitchen before the sun comes up. I also use it in the yard to turn the low voltage landscape lighting on around the yard shortly after dusk and then turn them off at midnight. One of the lamps lights up an address rock in the front so that passer bys can catch the address at night. I have the stereo set to turn on and off at set times throughout the day. My favorite, is when the stereo comes on in the morning, just as I am climbing out of the shower. I can catch up on the daily news before I even leave the room. The lights in our bedroom and ensuite come on shortly after dusk and dim to about 36% and shut off automatically around 11:00 pm. I also have a sprinkler controller from EZRain to control all of the underground sprinkling. I also have it set to turn my waterfall pump on and off a few times during the day to get rid of any oxygen that may have built up in the system. Along with motion sensors I have used it to turn on soffit lights when someone approaches the front door, along with turning on a camera to record the action to my pc. Motion sensors are also used in the basement hallway and utility room to turn on lights so that you are not fumbling for a lightswitch in the dark. The cameras are a nice touch. I have one at the front door, one at the man door at the back of the garage along with one in the backyard looking back at the house. Two of them are set up so that I can pan them and catch most everthing that I need to.

At Christmas time my house is set up like a fantasy land with all the lites and ornaments like snowmen , Santa's , raindeers and Christmas trees standing all over the place. Lites on every bush and tree. All over the house. People come from all over to see the lites with there children. With one push of a button on the X-10s control panel the whole house lites up at the same time. We use one number for all the outside lites and another number for all the inside lites. it is truly beautiful to see the whole house lite up at the same time.

We used X10 devices as parts of our system to throw a surprise party to a guy working with us. We used HomeZIX software http://www.automationvista.com to detect when he comes in the office (late evening) using motion detector, turn on the lights, and play the Happy Birthday song.

In the spring of 2008, we are starting construction on out strawbale home. Our plan is to have a sentinal camera mounted where it can cover the site of the construction and record daily pictures. The sentinal with its zoom features and pan/tilt capability will allow us to zoom in on details of the construction to ensure no details are missed.

Once construction is finished, the camera will be mounted on top of the house so it will be able to capture the maximum view possible.

The starlight function will allow us to be able to not only monitor the property for security, but also for recording nocturnal animal activity as we will be in the middle of northern Ontario wilderness.

Utilizing a satellite internet connection, we will have Webview set up to be able to allow other to see and check out our property. Eventually, there will be a network of cameras set up around the property in known wildlife gathering spots or paths, as well as an underwater camera in the lake.

I integrated the X10 system into my house as an automation and security system.  The motion sensors are programmed with a macro flag that when set turns them into security motion sensors and when not set turns on lights.  I used a radioshack X10 panic dialer connected to 2 universal modules to trigger and disable it for the alarm mode.  When activated it turns on all flood lights on the outside of the house, triggers security cameras to start recording, and sounds the loud X10 sirens for 4 minutes at a time, and calls my and my wife's cell phones to notify that the alarm was triggered. Plus there is a red night light connected to an appliance module that turns on when the alarm is active and off when not, in the garage.  Also I use a StarDot video server for the security cameras with web remote viewing, it has a serial port so that I was able to connect a X10 firecracker module and with a custom web page stored in it I can controll all of my X10 modules from a secured web site (without my computer running at home).  And when we come home and turn off the alarm, the lights in the basement, stairs and hall all come on so that we never enter a dark house.  Also the exhaust fan in the shower is hardwired to a switch so that when we enter the shower a waterproof motion sensor turns on the fan and 1 minute after exiting the shower the fan goes off.  And when my alarm clock goes off in the morning the lights I need to get ready for work all turn on automatically.  Plus to keep us ontime for church all the lights in the house flash 3 times, 10 minutes before it is time to leave, and the bathroom lights go off with it is time to leave.  This is all done with the following x10 and misc hardware:  CM15A, Stardot Express 6 Video Server, 3 Universal Modules, 7 Motion sensors, firecracker module, DSL Modem, Linksys NSLU2 server w/250gb hdd, 5 transceivers, 17 light switches, 8 appliance modules, 9 lamp modules, 7 remote light switches, 4 keychain remotes, 6 pad remotes, and 2 alarm clocks.

Hi Folks!
These are 7 things (among many others) that I have done in my House :

Idea1   - I used a motion sensor with X10 Smart macros. And now I get an email in my office when the mailman puts new mail in my Mailbox.
Idea2   - When I walk into my Master or Guest bathrooms at night, my lights turn on at 30% brightness, but if I walk in during evening hours, it turns on at full brightness.
Idea3   - In the night (after 10 pm), if my wife or I close our bedroom door, then all the lights in all other rooms automatically turn off. (We sleep with our door closed and there are only 2 people living in our house). On the other hand if we open the door after 10 PM, then the kitchen and dining lights turn on (assuming that we are probably heading towards the Kitchen (or refrigerator)
Idea 4 - I have an electric waterfall in my backyard. If I walk into the backyard, it turns off automatically (although when I let me dog out in the backyard, it turns on as well), then after motion ceases it turns of after 5 minutes. Also, if I walk into the backyard at night, it turns on the backyard floodlights as well.
Idea 5 - when I open my garage door from inside, the lights turn on (same with the attic).
Idea 6 - When I enter my home in the evening (through the garage door). The hallway and kitchen lights turn on to illuminate my pathway. Took lot of time to make it work correctly. Because once I am in my home, if I need to go out to the garage to get something, it would trigger the same actions. I had to use a combination of motion sensors and flags to remember where exactly I am in the house at any given time.
Idea 7 - All my front yard bush /accent lights turn on between dawn and dusk

-Thanks
Nishant

::)I am in a wheelchair with very limited use of my hands and arms.  I use x10 along with my voice input system on my computer to operate my household lighting and appliances when I'm home alone.  But probably the neatest thing is, I have a power door opener which when it is triggered by a wall switch it unlocks and opens the entrance door for 20 seconds then closes and Reeboks.  If  powe ris interrupted the door will actively.  I have a camera watching the door, when the doorbell rings I can see who it is from my computer room three rooms away.  Then by interrupting power with an x10 module I activate the unlock and open mechanism to allow whoever it is to enter (if I want to).  This also allows my wife to open and unlock the door with an x10 keychain remote

I use my tiny cams on 2 places, on the rear of my pickup so I can back up and see when I Hook up my trailer, also, on another channel, I have another cam mounted on the rear of my 17 foot trailer.  These are a great safety aspect so that Io don't hit anything backing up,how did i do it??? i simply made an adapter that I can plug into my cigarette lighter( because the cams are 12 volt) I placed the receiver(which is also 12 volt) under my dash and placed a small 5 inch moniter on my dash..  SO I THINK X10 WOULD BENEFIT GREATLY IF YOU MADE A CAR READY SYSTEM, INCLUDING 12V ADAPTERS (THIS WORKS AWESOME ON MY R.V. ALSO!!!!) and possibly a small moniter/receiver combo to place on dash (or anywhere for that matter)..   THANKS FOR READING!!!!      ;)

My house layout has raised ceilings combining the kitchen, dining and living room areas. I placed dimmer modules above the cabnets with LED Christmas lights to provide ambient lighting. Note: This required modification of the dimmer modules to remove the current sensing circuit, because the trickle current for the current sensing circuit will illuminate the LED's.

I use my Van Guard camera to view the front of my house. I also have a camera at my front door ,one in the living room, and another out back.

I use Active Home Pro to turn on/off my air conditioners, my lights, of which I also use my remote so I can walk down the hallway without stubbing my toe like I used to.

I also have an Eagle Eye sensor positioned at my front door that will turn on a Macro that will turn on the porch light and start taking snapshots from all of my cameras and email me them for later viewing in case something happens to any of my stuff.

I also have my voice dialer security console set up to call me when a security sensor trips then I can monitor my cameras from work using my iWittness software.

There are other ideas I have yet to incorporate into my smart house security system.

Not sure if this is what you had in mind for the contest, but I hope I win, sure could use another camera to use in my home security system.

Thanks GJ

For an elderly family member whose clothes dryer is located in a utility room off the carport, I set up a remote end-of-cycle signal using a PSC01 Powerflash Security Interface and a SC546A Remote Chime.

A small plug-in DC power supply (a "wall wart" style charger) that is connected to the end-of-cycle buzzer.  The 9 volts DC from the wall wart goes to the Powerflash module which is set for Mode 3 (one unit code on, then off).  The Remote Chime is set to the same house and unit codes as the Powerflash unit.

When the clothes dryer cycle ends, the dryer turns on the end of cycle buzzer for a few seconds, which also powers the wall wart.  This activates the Powerflash module which then signals the Remote Chime to announce that the dryer is finished.  The Remote Chime can be plugged in anywhere in the house to monitor the dryer's status.

There is no longer any need to make trips outside to check whether the dryer has finished.  X10 will report immediately when it happens.

I have a cabin in colorado and I live in Phoenix.  I use quite a few x10 components to monitor my cabin.  I have Active home that i run which has three wireless cameras that i control remotely as well as turn lights on and off as necessary.  Being that this is in a rural location the power is sometime a problem so I modified the computer to allow for remote start and reboot via the x10 telephone decoder.  this allows me to restart  from the ground up and or just reboot when the power goes out as needed.

I have used X-10 to automatically control my lights and secure my home for many years. I have two neighbors who are not into gadgets and electronics, both of whom are up in years. Since they are on the same transformer from the power company, I was able to operate lights for them with my own system. They can always come home to a house with an inside light or two, and post lanterns and porch lights that come on automatically. They really appreciate it. They tell me that at times when they have guests over and the lights come on by themselves, and they tell them their neighbor does it, the guests are amazed.

I've used X10 since the days of the old BSR timer (BTW... I still have the timer.) and have used AHP since it came out.

I have a macro to wake me in the morning by 1st turning on a small bedside light, the radio 2 minutes later and then the overhead light after another 3 minutes. Since my bathroom is at the other end of the house from the water heater, I have AHP trigger a universal module a few minutes later that starts a pump to bring hot water to my bathroom faster. This way I can turn on the shower and have hot water in a few seconds instead of a couple minutes. I save money on my hot water bill as well as not having to wait for the shower to get warm.

I have AHP dim my front light to 60% at dusk. I also use a motion sensor near the door that brightens the light when someone approaches. By using an else to the macro, this motion sensor doubles as a trigger for my Halloween display. My Halloween display dims the front light and turns on a foggier, a strobe and strange sounds when kids approach. See pictures here. (http://www.x10community.com/forums/index.php?topic=10751.msg61335#msg61335) Someone called 911 last year because there was so much smoke and I had a chance to meet the fire department. They've recently build a fire department about 1 mile from my house so I may get to meet a new bunch of firemen this year. ;)

One of my most useful macros is my welcome / exit macro. It's triggered by a drive over switch that I made. See instructions here. (http://www.x10community.com/forums/index.php?topic=8304.msg71554#msg71554) By using a flag to indicate an at home status the same trigger can either turn off lights and close the garage when I leave or welcome me by turning on an inside light near the door.

I also have a timed shutdown macro that closes the garage at night and in the morning. No more accidentally leaving the door open.

I even have a power recovery macro that will shut my garage door even if I had to open it manually during a power outage.

I live on a private lake that restricts speeds to no-wake starting at sunset.  I was given a traffic light as a present by my Wife's parents and could never figure out what to do with it until I put the two together.  I rigged the lights in the traffic light to be individually controlled by X10 lamp modules and set it up with my CM11A to turn on the Green light 1 hour before sunset, switch to yellow 15 minutes before sunset, then red right at sunset and leave the red on for an hour after sunset.  That way we know when to stop waterskiing or jetskiing and can avoid a find for violating the sunset rule.  I use a linux program called heyu to program the CM11A.

My original purchase of the X10 camera was a 3 camera deal with motion sensor and VCR commander. I use this to monitor our entry and exit doors of a small family owned business in a high crime area. It records everyone entering and leaving the building. Luckily we've never needed the tape, but I feel much safer with it.

I recently purchased 2 additional camera's for home use. One that monitors the swimming pool, and the other monitoring the driveway. Unfortunately I have a detached garage where I was going to place a camera to monitor the swimming pool and deck area, but the distance from the camera to the video receiver was just over 100'. 109' to be exact, and I could not get a clear enough signal to use it in the ideal location. I relocated it to a roof peak off my back porch which does give me a clear view, but due to the distance not what I really intended it for. I would love to purchase the sentinel for this reason alone, but it is not in my budget at this time.

As for a suggestion or idea...
I'd love to see a signal booster, or something you can place in between the signal similar to a wireless router/workswitch allowing further distances or improve signal capabilities when theres poor reception due to interference.

Thanks for a great product!

I love my Active Home Professional.  We use it for serval things:

1. We use it to wake up the family in the morning. I have it programmed to cut the lights on in the morning with a delay and then turn the lights off.  My oldest son lights come on @ 4:30 am, then my younger kids goes on @  6:00 am, and mine comes on @ 6:05 am to get that extra sleep  ;D.

2. We also use Active Home Professional when we are going out of town to turn lights on/off at different intervals and delays, so it appears someone is home.  We also hook a radio up to an appliance module so it comes on at different times as well to get some cool sounds while we are away  8).

3.  When we are out of town we use it check on the house with our 8 camera system.

4. AND THE BEST WAY we used it was when we were selling our house last year.  I set up the system to record ALL 8 cameras while our house was being viewed.   What a treat that was to see how people were going through our house. We got a kick out of it.

I have a hot water recirculation system which provides almost instant hot water to all faucets in the house. A 1/6th horsepower water pump motor actuated by a temperature sensor determines when to circulate hot water from the propane fired hot water tank.

Two Mini Controllers (MC 460), one up stairs in the bathroom and one in the downstairs kitchen, combined with an appliance module allow us to turn the 1/6th water pump on/off to conserve propane and hot water during non use times, such as nighttime. In the past we also used a timer with this system, but we found it to be unnecessary and more convenient and reliable to use the controller-appliance combination.

Where to begin...
I have 3 x10 cameras setup to monitor the front door, garage door, and back patio door. Each camera is trigerred by a corresponding motion sensor. The sensors also triger a macro which, based on what time it is, does different things:
time between dusk - dawn, then turn outside lights on, take snapshots of current active camera every 30 seconds for 3 minutes
time between 9 am - 6 pm, then start recording video (30 seconds), AND email a snapshot of the current active camera to my work email address
time between 6 pm - dusk - I am home, so don't do anything
This setup is great because when it's dark outside and someone approaches the house, the outside lights come on. It makes it look as if someone incidentally turned the lights on at the same time OR someone was watching and turned the lights on. And we never stumble in the dark when we get back home late.
It also helps to see what's going on around the house when I'm at work (did the cable man show up? did UPS deliver the package I expected to get today? did my daughter come home from school?, etc).

In addition to this setup, I can see 'live' video through the myHouse plug-in. I can also control all of my x10 modules from anywhere in the world, via an Internet connection.

My house relies on about 30 x10 wall switches and lamp modules to operate on its own. The front room lights, office lamp, and kitchen cabinets lights turn on automatically 15 minutes before dusk. At 9:30 PM (time for kids to go to bed) the lights dim to 60%. If anyone is still up, at 11 PM the lights go down to 30%, until 12:30 AM, when they turn off completely. The system keeps a few lights on throughout the house, dimmed at an appropriate level, to be able to walk around without hitting yourself in the middle of the night, if needed. Outside landscape lights are also kept on throughout the night, until dawn. The stairs lights are controlled by a motion sensor and a macro that turns the light on for 30 seconds, then turns them off. At night time, the same macro slowly brings the lights up to only 30%, enough to see where you're going without being blinded by the lights. 20 seconds later the lights slowly dim down to 0%.
The master bathroom is setup up the same way - lights come on automatically between 5 PM - 10 PM, to 100%. They stay on for 25 minutes, then automatically dim to 0%. At night time, the lights come on to 30% and 3 minutes later they go back to 0%.

With Bill's Voice Commander, I can also tell the system what to do. For instance, if I am watching TV and the kids left lights on in the kitchen, dining room, or bathroom, I simply ask 'James' to turn them off: "James, turn off dining room lights please". James turns the lights off as requested.

Using a universal module and an appliance module, I also automated my garage door to close at certain times. We no longer have to worry about closing the garage door - the system checks to see if it's open and if it is, it sends out an audio warning ("Warning, garage door will automatically close in 10 seconds, please stand back"). A chime module also announces anyone around that it's time to get away from the door, and 2 seconds later the garage door closes. The system does this every day at dusk + 15 minutes, 10 PM, and midnight. The garage door also has built-in security features to stop if something is blocking the path or if it detects resistance. This way nobody could get hurt by the automatic process.

There are many uses for X10. Every Christmas I keep adding new modules. My wife is getting tired of all the electronics gadgets around the house, but she does enjoy the results :)

I would use a sentinel camera to video my pastor on sundays ,we have two nurserys and a extra room that you can listen to the pastor on sunday but what I would like to do is wireless video cast him to a TV in every room so they not only hear him buy can see him when he gives his sermons. what better way to use one than to spread God's Word.
I hope this idea can help someone in their church.
Have a great day,

I am a police officer and use my xcam and vangaurd software as a remote surveillance system.

I use the xcam vanguard software combined with xcams, sometimes a color but mostly a low light b/w xcam connected to a laptop with an aircard to connect to the internet.  I then put the laptop computer in the area I want surveillance, in a business or car or trailor in a parking lot.  I then log on to vangaurd remote and monitor the sight without being on site and possibly compromising our surveillance.  With this system I can be well out of area and don't chance scaring off suspects.  I am currently working on a way to get audio remotely at the same time.  With the addition of a pro camera would be give so much more flexibilty, and it's not likely my small town afford one.

(http://graphics.x10.com/images21/grab.gif) (http://www.x10.com/minisites/x10sentinel/)

shieldfp18,

If you need to add audio transmission to your XCam we offer an Audio/Video Receiver. http://www.x10.com/products/receivers.htm This will allow your XCam to not only send video wirelessly but also send audio to you as well. Now, I talked to my techs and they said that the microphone on the XCam has a very good pick up quality. So at close range all audio will come in very clear and you should get a good audio quality up to about 20 feet away but the range extends beyond that. Basically, a voice at normal room volume should pick up clearly at about up to 20 feet. I hope this gives you and your police force a bit of assistance and I thank you for your post. It's nice to hear that we can help out the men and women in blue. Good luck on the job and on the Idea Contest.  :)

Surveillance - Surveillance - Surveillance

I would use the Sentinel Camera in my car for Surveillance, for that is what I do for a living. I want to turn my car into an X10 camera mobile that will video all that is around me. It will greatly enhance the quality of my work. And when I’m not working I want to live stream my travels around the city so anyone can see what is happing on the street. Live and in Real Time, it will be great for promoting X10 cameras.

If we had the Sentinel Camera it would be used to stream video with audio of church services to our homebound and our kids away at college. Also a video send to foyer and nursery monitors.  Also want to setup with motion sensor to record during off hours as the church has been broken into in the past.

OK here's my idea,   My friend runs a daycare center, this is an awesome security feature, she sends an invite through the home automation system to the parents email address. and   BOOM !! instant nanny-cam!!  the parents can feel safe that they can check in to see how the kids are and feel secure knowing that they can pop in and monitor the daycare while they are at work and now that phone have internet,  they can check in on the fly :o

Hello,

I use my x-10 devices: I have my home set up to use the x-10 to start with the bathroom heater on those cool-frigid mornings (toasty) even before I climb out of bed, then the coffee maker comes on with that nice hot brew, as I make my way into the hallway the motion detector notices I am there and the light comes on in the bathroom, with the heater working it is a comfortable area to shower and move into the next phase of my ActiveHome. I retrieve a cup-a-Joe and move into the breakfast area with that light coming on but not too bright as my eyes are still adjusting to the morning, (my x-10 lamp module programed with the active home interface to light the light at 65 %) using an old tube TV and the remote control handset control an appliance module my front door is illuminated with a socket rocket and the x-10 camera shows my way is clear.

I switch to the other cameras around my house and see what is happening all around, then the back camera switches on using my motion detector and shows the neighbors cat doing its business, I hit the big red button and the siren scoots that cat back to where it comes (cat ongoing problem). as I leave the house for work the lights all go into out of area mode and if I am away for a few days will make some seemingly random (but carefully crafted) light and radio operations to make it apprear that I am home.

All the time I am away I use the myhouseonline to watch and make adjustments to my living space from away.

I would love to mix the Sentinel into my living arrangements and have it where I can zoom into the whole area (like on a tall pole ) or inside where I can even view the mail that is dropped into the door.

Thanks for the contest :o

JD

I am using the motion detector with a 25' clear rope light in my dark stair case, great when I get
up during the night as soon as I enter the area the lights come on for a short time to make 13 steps safe and easy to see. Plus I am savinging energy in the past had two seven watt night lights on all the time.

I live in Minneapolis, Minnesota and I have a problem in our alley with people dumping illegal trash. My home is at the end of the alley where it is dark and there is a sharp 90 degree u-turn because it is not a thru alley.  At the end of our alley there is a blind spot and at night it is very dark which makes it an ideal area for someone to dump garbage and illegal trash.  This illegal dumping of garbage has been going on most of the summer and my neighbors and myself are concerned that when others see this mess they will get the idea that this is a good spot to dump their trash, adding to the existing pile of trash. And it may appear to other home owners and city inspectors that this trash is coming from us.  I have purchased an X-10 Sentinel Camera.  I have cut a hole in my garage wall, high up near the peak of the roof, and I am installing the camera and along with a motion sensor and I'll plug these into my TV/VCR to record any illegal dumping. I left a voice message with the city inspectors explaining the problem and I tolde them my plan and how I hope to record these people doing the dirty deed. Thank You, Patrick

This system would work great for someone wishing to start there own small security/Monitoring service to group association cottagers.

One could offer Monitoring services of roadway areas play areas school bus pick-up areas and even in-home monitoring while residence are away for long and short term period, a person would purchase all required wireless equipment including signal boosting units and could from there own home run this service for a nominal fee to the individuals or as a general service to the association members as a group service. I do believe this to be an untapped source of revenue to this cam system..

Sincerely, Ray

I use my X10 PRO system to control almost ever single light in my home, ceiling fans and other appliances.

On the weekends I have it dim the lights for a set time and then shut off after everyone is sleeping.   The television in the children's play area is on a timer and turns on and off at the times they are allowed to watch TV.  The lights in the kids rooms, turn on when to help wake them up in the mornings on school days.

Our coffee is always ready to go in the morning, lights on to welcome us home with comfortable lighting and perfect temp.

The remote slim wall mount switches are perfect to have on the 2nd floor to turn on a light downstairs at night or when someone comes to the front door.  I use the macro to have it auto shut off after a short period of time.

Motion sensors are also great for having in the back yard to turn on lights around the home or inside to make it easy when your up for that midnight snack.

So many things to use X10 for, the sky is the limit if you have a good imagination.

I would love to try the Sentinel Camera out and use it along with my X10 Pro system.

Thanks X10 for a great product.

Hi, I work for the school dist and I do yard duty. And I think everyone knows that during recess the kids have problems with getting along with other students. What i did was set up motion sensors & cameras around the playground so when the kids are outside the cameras start. Than when students come to me saying mark hit me first or kim did this I tell them to go play somewhere else away from the other student and I will come and talk to them after recess. What I do is go check the video and guess what mark did hit her first. And when I gotalk to the students they do not know how I am always right. The Name "Mr. Justice"

Title: My Idea of a X10 Secured home
Post by: Ram on September 08, 2007, 11:18:19 PM
044

Hello All
First off, even if I dont win ...Please use the idea if it applies to you, we are obviously here because we know the danger out there. My house was robbed twice in two weeks in May and I lost 15K plus that I am still paying. I am ordering my X10 system after EXTENSIVE research on different
available systems.

Heres why you buy their products in my opinion
a.   X10 can offer a single product that can not only monitor but also record in TWO different places in your house (see diagram, recording in secure closet area and monitor in your living room!).
This is not offered by many out there for the price.
b.  Its weather proof and they are claiming so very positively. This is hard because a lot of them are dodgy out there with their words.
c.  Bundle prices are much cheaper.

Ok, I dont want to sound like a sales man now. Only my opinion. Here is what I would like to propose to secure your house.  I am not including the security system because thats everybodys deciision on what their needs are. Assuming you have a security system in your house, I would like to show what I did to my house to secure it.

Only two locks in the Market are truly bump proof (takes 2 seconds to open ur lock using bumping), drill proof and pick proof.  Madeco and Mul-T.

Maindoor -

Locks: Use a Kwikset Smartkey(this lock is bump proof to an extent, will delay the theif) for the twisting knob and a MUL-T for your deadbolt, always use a double cylinder in your deadbolt so if anybody
EVER gets in he Cant GET OUT! : ) ...BUY A LONGER LOCK PLATE FOR YOUR PILLar from home depot (10 bucks), prevents kick in.
Cameras: Now use a low light camera in your maindoor and mount it high with a motion sensor so you can have your instant on for visitors. You probably dont need to set this to record because your door should be safe with the locks you have in place.

Living room: Every theif that comes to your house in my opinion WILL cross your living room, best place to keep your pan tilt X10 that you can view through your computer.

Bedroom and Closet - Remember you can only watch and record in your computer if the theif doesn take it right? :) not to worry, put a kwikset commercial smart key lock. this will prevent him( remember he already has to  break in through two tough locks to get in, plus the alarm is going off, he doesn have much time).

put your VCR commander and yoru VCR in the closer (if you want more protection, put another smart key kwikset (these are like 20 bucks a piece). you only want MULT and Madeco for your maindoor and balcony door).

Balcony Door - Weakest link in your house these are usually double doors or sliding doors, My advise secure your weakest link the most, if its double door geta  MADECO and put a latch with a padlock.
X10 - Mount a instant on (you WANT this in your balcony because you want to record as soon as possible, there should not be much movement in your balcony  (especially if its screened)).

There is more to what I am doing to my house but I hope this explains a general idea of how I plan to secure my house. Remember, the theif is looking for a easy hit, if he sees all the warnings and the lock makes and the camera, he is probably already out. I hope my experience helps someone.  I am attaching a rough illustration for my design.

We use our cameras as a kind of baby sitter. ;)  We have a 15 year old with ADHD ODD. With the help fron the X10 cameras We keep a close eye over things while he is home alone. This has save us many a disaster. as he is always in to things and doing things he is not to do. If I happen to see him doing something on the camers and he denies it, ::)   ??? I simpley show him the proof.  :o This has helped a lot to help manage his temptations such as over eating and messing with our this he is not to touch, IE Lap Top, and several other things  :)

About 90% of lights and lamps in my apartment at X10 enabled. For my lamps I use X10 Lamp Modules and for all other bulbs I use Socket Rockets. There is atleast 1 light in every room that is motion sensor triggered. Lights in my bathroom and closet are time triggered using Home Automation software. Recently I installed 2 X10 wireless cameras, one at my front door and one in the lounge. I have a TV tuner card installed in my computer, and using that I can easily see what is going on in the lounge andat my front door.

My kids used to leave the on at nights, and for that I have installed a Appliance module for my TV, and configured it to turn off at 11:00 PM using Home Activation software.

I always had problems with my front door lights. I daily had to go out and turn them on at night and then turn them off in the morning. I hated that !!! Now with the help of socket rocket and Home Automation software, I don't even need to worry about my front door lights. They automatically turn on in the evening and turn off in the morning.

I love the macros in the Home Activation software. I have created tons of macros to automate my lights.

I use my X10 for security only at this time, whenever I go away from home and my sensors are triggered ie: anybody gains entrance my X10 calls my cell phone so I know about it no matter where I am.  This has happened once already and the X10 Called my cellphone, then I in turn called the police and in a matter of minutes I got a call back from the police.   I love X10, makes me feel really secure as I run a business from my home with lots of inventory.

I use the x10 in my car like a dash cam, i also use it to catch the little punks doing damage to my car when I'm sleeping.
But what i use it the most for is to surveillance my place of work when I'm not there , to keep an eye on the way the others perform their duties , and that they are up to state and federal laws.

I will streemline the signal over the internet and view it at home or at work. I use my x10 to the fullest.

This product is the best for the price being asked anywhere.

I have been using X10 products since the 70's .Then it was called BSR. I used a X10 remote to interface the central control, which turned on all the exhibits at the Ontario Science Centre in Toronto .  At Christmas  , I would control my Christmas lights, as well as the neighbours across the road. Spring time I would  use Robo Dog  to keep wild animals away from the vegetable garden . When our paper is delivered up our driveway during the night , a motion sensor turns on our outside lights for him  . Because I mounted the motion sensor behind the out side light, it would think that it is daytime , and turn off about 1 minute later .Great product ,thank you.Regards , Jeffrey.

Yo X10!  I have a great product ideas.

Step up the CM15A to the next level and make it a 802.11x & 10/100/1000 and possible POE Plugin Network Appliance.  I can send x10 signals over the network, over the air, and normally over the powerline.  You would have to tweak the current modules, they probably need it to have some onboard circuitry to allow 802.11x communications.  I don't know if you'll need to do some FCC stuff for this.  This way you have 2 way communication and communication could be 100's of times faster over ip than with powerline unless you have some POE component that could be backwards compatible. It could be your all-in-1 wireless router with firewall. Think Apple airport on steroids.  I think that it might be running OSX Lite code to accomplish all what it's doing now.
That way it can always be on and not connected to a computer.  It will need to be tweaked to allow rf from cameras and save to a remote networking share or external drive for video and photos
Sell it appropriately and have essentially AHP and the macros that you can purchase with the same manner with a registration key.

Here's the rundown:
*OS:  Windows CE, XP Embedded, or roll your own OS
*RAM:  Enough to run the app, os, and ahp with alot of modules and macros 512/1024
*Connectivity:  10/100/1000 (POE) Ethernet Port, High output 802.11x Antenna, Modem for Callerid and Dialing
*X10:  High Output RF Antenna W800RF Like all wrapped up in compact antenna for RF Sensor, Remotes, and X10 Cameras
*New features:
*Dialing for certain conditions over the modem or SIP (Vonage/Asterisk)
*Browser interface (IE/Firefox/Opera) Please no activex trickery :-)
*USB Interface(s) for external storage/printing/peripherals and also usb hubs

I'll add more but I'll have to run.

our daughter has seizures. they always happen in the middle of the night and her doctor said it would be helpful if we could capture one of her episodes on video. But when she would have one, by the time i could get the camcorder on it would be over. So we got the idea to put an eagle eye motion sensor and a nightvision camera in her room connected to a vcr commander. that way it would start recording as soon as the seizure started happening. x10 products are a blessing. we never could have captured one of her episodes if not for x10.

Hi everybody. I have been an X-10 fenatic for the past 15 years or more. I have truly transformed my entire house to "the home of the future". I have replaced virtually all my light switches with X-10 switches and electrical outlets. I use the system to turn fountains on and off, control all my outdoor low-voltage lighting and I even use it in conjunctioon with my Virtual Weather Station software to turn on ceiling fans when the heat index inside the house exceeds 79 degrees. Since I have no regular wall switches, there is a palm pad or two located on every table to conveniently be able to control the entire house. Since I have built a small "Disco" on my back porch, I use X-10 to control all the lighting effects and even the smoke machine with Active home. This frees me up to be able to join the party while X-10 does alll the work flawlessly.

I also use X-10 for security. Every single window, door, cubby hole and opening in the house is protected by X-10. In addition, I have installed 4 Poerhorn Sirens in various locations throughout the house to deter any attemts to break in. I have even installed a repeater to allow the alarming of our large wood shed. Total protection. Try to find that from a compettitor! I even use the security plug-in to turn lights OFF when I alarm the house to leave and to turn lights ON when I disarm the house to re-enter. In addition, the plug in allows me to receive e_mails on my cell phone if a door or window is compromised and the e mail tells me exactly which door or window is open.

I also use the camera plug in to record any motion that is detected around the house and I am also able to conect to my house live over the internet to see if everything is OK. This is invaluable, especially if there happens to be a false alarm.

In short, I have built a mega system out of X-10 that is the envy of anybody that sees it.

Here's my idea, and it's a dilly!! Several of my family members are truckers and they tell me that the most dangerous part of their job is when they are backing up their 'big rigs', because they have a giant blindspot and it is very easy to back up over a vehicle or (heaven forbid) a person who is not being observant. In fact, a couple of weeks ago here in Oklahoma a young life was lost because he was 'backed over' by a dump truck.

So here's the winning idea: combine a wide-angle wireless camera (complete with a rechargeable battery pack and a magnetic base) and a small black/white 12 volt DC monitor. The camera (or the monitor) needs to scan backward so it will look in the monitor just like a rear-view mirror. You could probably solve the backward image problem by using optics of some kind, but rewiring the camera would certainly be the cheapest.  The camera/monitor pair MUST be reliable for a range of at least 70 feet (the length of a big rig).

If truckers always towed the same trailer, this would be an easy fix. However, most companies switch trailers with every load, so mounting your own camera permanently is not possible.

So, when the driver prepares to back up into a tight location, he/she only needs to attach the camera to the metal bumper (magnetically), turn on the camera outside and the monitor inside, and back up with confidence.

Well, there's my idea and bet it will sell a lot of units if the price is reasonable and it is advertised to the trucking industry.

I have nine X-10 cameras run by Vanguard.  I use them for "horse-sitting."  My wife and I both work and therefore can not be home all day with the horses.  However, we have Vanguard cameras in the barn that can see each stall.  I've arranged preset locations for each camera to allow monitoring of the stalls, including preset positions for food buckets and water buckets.

I have installed solenoid valves and float switches on the water pipes going to each stall and the water buckets that I can control with my X10 system, and I periodically check the status of every horse's water bucket by logging on to the Vanguard software over the internet from my office or when I'm out of town.  If one of them gets low (It's very hot here in Florida and sometimes they drink a lot more than you'd expect.)  I can turn on the water solenoid valve to each horse's stall on whenever I see that it is low and filli it up.

Even better...I have recently kicked it up a notch by setting up a macro to use input from the float switches to automatically refill the water when it gets low.   The float switches and solenoids are low power, so I just hooked them up as if they are lamps or appliances in my house.  When someone's bucket gets low, a macro fires and fills it up.  ALL my neighbors are jealous.

I'd like to try a Sentinel in my house so I can see when my daughter gets home from school.  That way I can shut off the macros and have her walk out to the barn and refill the water the old fashioned way.  (Kids still need some chores to build character, you know...)

Eureka! We are getting closer to a smarter home.
A break down of my home as you tour through X-10 uses....

I have an ms14a motion sensor setup on my front porch above a intercom system. When comeone approaches it turns on the base station power. So I save energy by only having it operate when someone comes in range to use it. Since my mailbox is next to it, this also lets me know when mail or visitors are arriving.
I use my wireless cameras to view the front of my house (porch and front door), one in the living room for survelliance, and a nany-cam there as well. I have another wireless aimed at my street so I can monitor who is around all the vehicles in the street to help deter vandalism, etc. The side of my home has some hardwired cameras which I can tied into my receiver as well. The back of my home has two additional cameras to see what is going on. Several of the cameras are set to random picture capture while three use motion detection to power up in case of incident and force recording from their location. I use both the Active Home and the VCR commander (UX21A) to ensure I capture images to two locations for backup security.
Also use Active Home Pro to turn on/off my air conditioners, my lights, fans, and more.  Since the USB interface stores the macros there is less issue when I am travelling of anything being missed.  The Active Home Professional when going out of town turns lights on/off at different intervals and delays, so it appears someone is home.  Have to love the remote(s) as well. I set my house codes to be a little more unique so the remotes only trigger a few lights.
There is also a voice dialer security console (DX7000) set up to call when a security motion sensor or any sensor strip is activated.
So the security of my (and surrounding) homes is the major reason.
The real "fun" of X-10 comes in around the holidays.
Christmas - the lights set to chase each other to music, the tree light control, and of course train track control. The dimmer module can throttle back the power or speed it up as effectively as the train controller box.
Halloween - between motion sensors automating ghouls and ghosts, lighting that dims and flickers, to on/off animatronic control. Then add in dragon heads that spew mist, armor that jiggles as little ghouls approach... makes for a fun experience.
I also use X-10 with my car - a replica of a Knight Rider. With cameras to monitor the vehicle and my garage setup with tube lights and some other FX, it makes eyebrows raise to see the KARR and numerous components being monitored by cameras and the like.

Items I have acquired and setup in my castle:
Security remotes
Door/Window Sensors
Motion Sensors
Security cameras using the Xcam Anywhere, Xcam2 Wideye (ninja), and Nightwatch2
Mailbox monitoring with door/window sensor and EagleEye motion sensor
Garage door automation with door/window sensor and universal module
Lighting and fan control with wall switch modules, dimmer/fixture modules, and lamp modules
iconRemote controlling:  TV, DVD, Cable Receiver, even Creative Labs audio in my PC for movies
Ligthing macros using iconRemote and Infrared Mini-controller
Thermostat Set-back controller

I've been using and enjoying X10 products and Active Home software to automate my home and make life easier. Every morning at 6:00am our bedroom light, hallway light, living room lamp turn on dimmed. Easy on the early morning eyeballs.  1 Hour later they brighten to 100%. We're awake.   At 9:30am they all turn off. We've left without dealing with light switches. All done with Macros!  In the evening some inside lamps come on 15 minutes after dusk and turn off at 11:00pm.  I've installed PLC Relay wall switches to control a driveway and backyard florescent Lights.  Both lights also have an eagle eye sensor to turn them on when motion is detected and turn off after a predetermined time period.  The Driveway light also comes on every day 15 minutes after dusk until 11:00pm regardless of motion.
Every year from November 23 until Jan. 15, 3 -20A PLC exterior outlets turn on at dusk until 11:00pm on weekdays and 12 midnight on weekends.  These control 50 amps of Christmas lighting. Interior Holiday lighting is also automated.
I use several remote controllers to use lights and outlets at other times of the day.

What happened to the wall switches you had for a time that had a feature called smart dimming or something like that. When I was ready to buy them I couldn't find them. The ability to ramp up from off to a preset dim level would greatly enhance the satisfaction I have with your with your products. I know Smarthome has switches that do this but they are a little expensive.

Hi,  I used an X10 camera and wireless receiver to have a rear view monitoring system in my motorhome. Most systems cost close to a $1000, but I have less than $100 in mine. I mounted the camera under a cabinet and it is pointing out the rear window, this way everything is inside out of the weather. I have a 15 inch LCD TV that is mounted to an overhead cabinet directly in back of the front passenger seat, so I just hooked up the wirless receiver to that. The TV can be turned so I can easily see it while I am driving. Everything runs on 12 volts so no problems. The main difference between this system and those made for motorhomes is that it is not a "mirror image" picture. Since it is mounted to the side instead of to the front there is no confusion. I tow a small trailer with my ATV in it and it is impossible to see it in the mirrors,so this wrks great for me. Also gives me a 15 inch rear view "mirror"

First idea (X10):  I noticed that before exiting the front door or rear door a red flash will flash warning to activate alarm system, but instead, it will advise you in a language voice warning.  Also It could be in different languages such as Spanish, Chinessed, Frech, etc.  This product could remind everyone who live in the household that has a fast life style, which some of the members of the household may forget to arm the security system before exiting their home.

Second idea:  I noticed that the voice dialer panel is dark.  A good idea would be to have the dialer panel illuminated for better security system and have enhance vision when you are going to put the numbers in the pad.

Third idea:  A cat/dog collar receiver to monitor lost pets and this also can reflect to a special X10 all in one system cam/gps/audio stystem all in one that can monitor your vehicle or the pet collar position.

[img]I use it for Halloween!  I set the camera up facing the trick or treaters coming up the sidewalk and connect the video to a TV or better yet, my daughter's karaoke machine. This let's the adults who've come over for the Halloween party see the little goblins approach.
Then, I run a wire to a computer speaker hidden in the bushes next to the sidewalk.  I also run a line to a skull that has a audio driven servo in it's jaw.  The adults in the house get to talk through the karaoke to the trick or treaters coming up the stairs.  I think it's more fun for the adults than the kids!

While away from home, my Voice-Dialler and door/window/motion sensors secure my home. If anyone enters my home, the siren starts blaring, the living room and front door lights start flashing, and the console calls my cell phone to let me know. Then I can get online to view my home's surveillance. I have a FloodCam (http://www.x10.com/products/x10_vt38a.htm) at each entranceway, a B/W XCam2 on a Ninja Pan'N Tilt in the living room, and a wide-angle colour XCam2 (http://www.x10.com/cameras/cameras_wireless.html#single_xcam2) in the foyer that watches the front door. Since most of my lights are automated (switches, lamp modules, and Socket Rockets), I can easily turn on all the lights and see whats happening from any computer on the internet. I've used several different programs to record the video and/or snapshots on my computer, but usually I just use my VCR Commander to record any motion (real easy!!). Since I use two wireless video receivers, both the VCR and the computer can record, reducing the risk of an intruder stealing the evidence.

While at home, I use many X10 products. Of course my lights, coffee pot, and air conditioner can all be remote controlled. I have alot of music on my computer, so I use BOOM2000 (http://www.x10.com/products/x10_vk57a.htm) and a wireless audio sender & receiver to hear my MP3's in the living room and bedroom. If anyone comes to visit, the FloodCam's motion sensor triggers a chime inside, giving me enough time to see them on my TV before they even knock. The thing I love the most though, is that everything is controlled on the same remote. Although I have PalmPads, key-chain remotes, and SlimSwitches, my truly universal remote (UR78A) does it all. It runs my TV, VCR, Cable, Stereo, Computer Media Player, and X10 components (lights, appliances, cameras...). Now that I can remote control my computer's music and wireless speaker setup, I hardly ever use my stereo.

I'm a firm believer in having an integrated system. That's why I love X10 so much. For years, manufacturers have been pressuring us to buy products that are "hi-tech", and full of micro-computers. Nowadays, even coffee-pots have built-in computers!!! X10 has proven that there is no need for this. Rather than having a computer in my coffee-pot, I use my home computer and software like ActiveHome Pro (http://www.x10.com/promotions/cm15a_ed_promo_79.html) to run all my home's electronics. Using easy to set-up macros, my computer wakes me up by turning on my bedside radio, turning on some dimmed lighting, and starting a fresh pot of coffee. Instead of having my hallway motion-sensor directly controlling the hall and bathroom lights, I add logic to the system by having the computer decide what to do. If it's morning or evening, the hallway and bathroom light turn on. If it's afternoon, just the bathroom light turns on. But if it's in the middle of the night, both lights turn on at only 40% brightness.

I think the future of home automation, though, is through Voice-Recognition, and text-to-speech software. Anyone who uses their computer in their home automation system should definitely try programs like HomeSeer 2 (they do a free 30 day trial). It's almost like a Star Trek movie!! You talk to your computer, and it talks with you. Although HomeSeer 2 is not an X10 product, it does control X10 components. Just ask for coffee, and your wish is your computer's command. The only drawback is that you have to talk into your computer's microphone. So far, voice-recognition software can't really handle background noise, so you can't talk to your computer from across the room. If X10 were to step in with their own Voice-Recognition software (actually, the software just accesses Microsoft's voice-recognition and text-to-speech capabilities), and come out with a little wireless microphone you could pin to your clothes (just like in Star Trek!!), I think it would be a huge boost to the industry ($$$).

Thanks for reading, and thanks for posting. I'm definitely going to try some of the ideas I've seen in this forum ;D

40 units and still going, 3 years ago I purchased a x10 camera system for live security monitoring of my property, I was very impressed by the quality of the picture sent to my TV and felt there must be some truth to all the hype about these x10 products, Since then I have installed wireless outlets for all my high end electronic equipment so I can turn off these units during lightening storms in the middle of the night, I've also installed wireless light switches to control ceiling fans and bedroom lights with dimming for the children's rooms for bed time, At the entrances there are light switches operating with motion sensors for those times when your hands are full and sensors to control exterior light for security,It's a great idea having the built in microphone on the miniature cameras, I use my deck camera to listen and watch the kids as they play to unsure there safety and well being, In our bathrooms are light wireless light switches that are motion controlled so when the children rise in the night half a sleep they can find there way with out disturbing the whole house, In our kitchen I've installed a socket rocket that's motion controlled and set for night use and it works great (no more stub ed toes) thank you very much, We haven't had a need for central air yet thank god, but where the air conditioner is now is quite high to the ceiling and it's great to turn it on & off with the palm remote, Also on our central vacuum I've in stall a wireless receptacle for the power head and a appliance three prong module both being control ed with a two button remote from any where in the house, My future projects will include, Lighting up my artificial well remotely, Installing more remote controlled robot cameras in the woods around our property which will be battery powered for nature views, Installing a appliance three pronged module to remotely operate my pressurewasher to save hydro, All in All it's been a great experience working with your X10 products. Goaltra.

The most useful application that I have devised is that of employing an X10 camera to watch an electronic thermometer that monitors the temperature inside (or outside) my home from anywhere with internet access. With various wireless remote temperature sensors the health of my air conditioning system or heater can be monitored without complex software and expensive dedicated devices.

My wife and I spend a lot of time away from home. During these extended periods, as well as when we are home, the X10 Active Home Pro software and various modules give my home a “lived in” appearance by turning on and off lights at appropriate times. It is also remotely accessible via services like “Logmein.com” or “gotomypc.com” and all aspects of my system can be remotely controlled while on extended trips.

I use X10 for home security. I have the standard X10 security system with door and window sensors, motion sensors at the front and rear doors that turn the outside lights on, the driveway sensor with a chime, and my favorite, the x10 cam with a motion sensor that the front door connected to the VCR commander so that I can record all the visitors that come to the house while I'm away. My next project will be to post the video or pics from the web cam to the internet so I can monitor it real time from anywhere. X10 is the best security system I've ever had!

We live on a farm north of Motley Mn.  Our neighbor claims that his dogs are not the ones killing our ducks, chickens, pigeons, & rabbits.  This camera is the answer to finding the truth, as my wife loves & cares for her pets.  It is dishearting when she brings one of these animals in the house all chewed up.  Instead of keeping their animals kenneled they let them loose at night when we go to bed.  He says shoot them when you see them.  Well he don't call us,  he lets them out without our knowledge.  With the camera we can show the photos to the Game Warden  & put a stop to this insanity!  Thankyou,  Bualai & John

Seems TTAs idea to get people to participate wasn't that far off!
I and other fellow forum members enjoy reading ways that you have used your X10 gear!
To All those that have posted ideas so far and those about too:
**Please don't this be your only post in the forums!**
Your ideas and suggestion really do  make a difference!

Any of your readers who have purchased rechargeable flashlight and appliances in the past. Know what a dissapointment it is to go to use it in a power outage only to find the batteries are in need of a charge. Of course we all know that if you leave most equipment on a charger all the time you ruin the batteries.
I use X-10 "Active Home" software and programmable module to control an appliance module with a surge strip (multi-outlet) with all my emergency or rechargeable devices' charges plugged into it. I set it up to charge for a certian period each day (15 mins work for my equipment Flashlights and lanterns) you need to experiment with your) and my equipment is always charged and ready for use without overheating or overcharging the batteries.

All you need is the Home Automation kit

I also used an inline module to seperate my "Track Lights from the Overhead light in the Kitchen without having to run new wiring in the hot, cramped attic. Now it the summer when I want to use the ceiling fan on the Kitchen overhead fixture, I can turn off the track lights on the same circuit no waisted energy.

Imagination is the only limit to the applications for X-10

i have a very large o-scale model railroad in the basement. i have stationary x10 now and broadcast live operation sessions on the net now. i let anyone who would like to see my trains in operation watch. with the x10 sentinel i could move the cam to follow the trains. i could do sensational night time operations with just street light and yard lights on. i could COVER the whole layout in the coal operations yard operations. it would allow those watching to follow the train down the main line just as if they where in the cab of the locomotive. to win the x10 sentinel would open up a new world for those watching my csx model railroad operations.
HAVING TROUBLE ADING PICTURES OF LAYOUT THANK YOU

I too have been impressed by the number of newbies this has brought the forum.

Let me echo to those new to the forum that your feedback and questions in other parts of the forum are welcome also.

I'm also optimistic that X10 is reading this branch of the forum and that it may lead to them interacting more with some of the operational issues of AHP and some of the unlabeled new versions of modules referenced elsewhere in the forum.

...we all know that if you leave most equipment on a charger all the time you ruin the batteries....
While the better chargers these days won't hurt batteries, at least not like early chargers did, it does waste energy leaving most chargers plugged in even when they aren't charging batteries.

...I set it up to charge for a certain period each day (15 mins work for my equipment Flashlights and lanterns)....
For most batteries this is a good idea but for NiCd batteries, frequent charging can be worst thing for them. It's always good to let a NiCd battery totally discharge before recharging. So be careful if any of your devices use NiCd batteries. Frequent recharging of NiCd batteries before they have totally discharged can lead to a battery "memory" problem that train the battery to have a short use cycle.

...Imagination is the only limit to the applications for X-10...
Imagination has bridged over many a hardware challenge.

Never underestimate an idiot that doesn't know what he's doing is suppose to be impossible.

I have a normal, 2 pin, lamp module (I'll have to get the model number) that I plug into the back of an APCC UPS (I'll have to retrieve the model number when I'm at home).  I use the "Slim Switch" and a wireless transceiver (I'll have to get those models, as well).  The lamp has a 12w CF bulb (equal to a 60w, I believe).  As soon as the power goes out and the UPS switches to battery, the lamp module automatically turns on (I don't know why, but it is perfect for what I need).

Now, I don't have to stumble around in the dark looking for a flash light.  The light just turns on instantly.  Only drawback is that, in a power outage that lasts two seconds (has happened on occasion), the light will just turn on.  No big deal, though.  I'd rather have it instant-on for those pitch-black, moonless nights, than stumble around my house, which will result in my hurting myself (has happened on several occasions already. :(  )

I would like to offer an idea for companies who need to manage parking lots or have a private lot for your office.

With a wide angle camera, mounted high on a light post (or on top of the office building) you can send the "BIRDS EYE VIEW" of the lot to a TV near the entrance of the lot.  This give the person who is arrive a quick view of where the empty spots are located.  Also, this give the impression that the lot is better monitored from a security point of view.

It works better with concrete lots then asphalt because the white background gives a better contrast.

I have had an x-10 for over 10 years now with only a few false alarms.  Very Dependable.  I have all four dial number in the system,  the first and third are my cell phone recently purchased and the other two ring my daughter in law/s home which is usually monitor 24/7.    On my way to my wife's hair appointment,  my cell phone goes off.   Not knowing who it might be since really no one knows the number, I listened to my message that there was an intruder.  Sure enough, when I listenen in with the zero on the cell, I heard intruders counting down from five to one, and then dead silence.  I scurried home , which was 10 minutes away, and found the rear door broken, and some russled drawers in the bed room, and papers all over my computer room    The alarm scared them and they were in a hurry to get out.  Nothing at all was taken thanks for the alarm on the x-10 console.  I got the police involved, but it took them over an hour to get there.  Thanks for the x-10, or I may have had all my computer equipment, plus expensive hi fi and other expensive items still in tack.    I have one window alarm that I never installed, and now since the whole house was wired when built, I am going to series all the windows and set up the only sensor so that if any window dowstairs is opened the alarm will sound.

I have my x-10 system working with my existing hard wired alarm system!  I use the alarm system to assist in controlling lighting so the wife can come home to a brightly lit house.  This is done using the X-10 light switches, socket rocket lamp modules, standard lamp modules, and I control it all with "My House" and her x10 key fob.  If I do not have it set on a timer to turn on lights at set times, she can press the lights on function on the fob and turn it all on nice and bright.  We live a little out of the way so this makes her feel a lot more comfortable when she comes home in the dark (boo).  I also use a camera connected through the X-10 motion sensor to keep an eye on my dog walker.  My wife thought the dog walker was mistreating the dog, so I hooked up the camera and VCR to the motion sensor, routed the power through a lamp module and control it all with the transceiver so when the door opens (the dog walker uses only the front door), the camera and VCR kick on and record her time in the house.  Pretty slick!  Anyway, I keep my wife happy so she can come and go from a well lit house, the dog safe and spouse happy that she can "spy" on the dog walker, and me happy as I get to play with and think of new ways to use my X-10 gear.   Right now I am thinking of how to hook up my new "Sentinel" camera system!

X-10 rocks, keep the good stuff coming!

I purchased an XCam2 Wireless Color camera with the motion sensor and video receiver to monitor my yard. Each Christmas. some punk kids run around vandalizing the Christmas decorations in my neighborhood. This year I'll be ready to catch them when they enter my yard. I also plan on buying more X10 controls to turn on all my Christmas lights and decorations simultaneously rather than me run throughout the house turn them on individually.

I use Four wireless, camera at the front and back door and pool area, drive way and on the blind side of my home. The  cameras send video to my computer  so I can always see who is visiting wanted or not. if I am away , I have it set up so it records video of the cameras to my VCR, and also have it send me an email to my home and forwarded to my cell phone, when there is motion detected by my motion sensors, for instantviewing.

I have a home built in 1921. I use X10 through out my home but my lastest project involved my HVAC system. When a forced air heating system was installed only 2 heat ducts where run upstairs to heat 4 rooms. Each duct comes up between a common wall for 2 rooms.

I have a living room that's an ice box in the summer and an oven in the winter. I installed in-line duct booster fans and motorized dampers in my heat ducts. Each 110 volt booster fan is controlled by a SR227 X10 outlet. The 120 volt fan plugs into the X10 controlled upper half of the outlet. In the always on lower half of the outlet I have plugged in an AM486 appliance module. The 24 volt AC transformer that supplies the power dampers plugs into the appliance module. Using Active Home Pro with Smart Macros I control the outlets and appliance modules. I have created a series of macros triggered by timers that match our living habits and X10 controls all the fans and dampers. Unused rooms have the dampers closed and booster fans off while occupied rooms are open and fans blowing. Since installing the fans and power dampers X10 has controlled the zones that I have set up making the rooms much more comfortable. Down the road I have plans to install X10 control to bring in outside fresh air into the system.

About three or four years ago, I built a home theater (http://davesdomainonline.com/ht/ht.htm). X10 was an affordable solution to a WOW-factor. The IR controller allows me to control my lights when I start and stop the movie. The video senders, allow me to RE-broadcast the movie to TVs upstairs.

I added cameras, so I could see my driveway from my office. More X10 lighting, modules, switches, floodlights... more cameras.

I came to the X10 forum looking for new ideas. Here I found Active Home Pro.... and BVC (http://www.x10community.com/forums/index.php?topic=13870.0). I spent some time trying different setups to get my voice to Bill's Voice Commander (http://www.x10community.com/forums/index.php?topic=12202.0). I finally found "baby Monitors"... and things haven't been the same since. By-the-way, X10 cameras with microphones can work just as well.

I created an X10 - BVC talking clock (http://www.x10community.com/forums/index.php?topic=12205.0) using macros in AHP.

I truly have a home that even the "Jetson's" would find "modern". I am one of X10's biggest fans!

I created a NEW X10 video.... you can view it at YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=apZF77tsZlI).

Hi, for as long as i can remember, we have used the home automation system.  I remember my dad first getting the system for the house I lived in as a kid, we were just amazed at the thought of standing in one room and turning on and off the lights in the next room.   When my wife and I bought our home thirteen years ago, I couldn't wait to start adding the automated light system to our house.  Every one on my wife's side of the family was shocked when they came over to our house and noticed that I didn't leave my chair to turn on the lights in the other rooms and even the outside yard lights and porch lights.  Just a few months ago, the park that out manufactured home was in was closed.  When this happened, the park became a gang hideout.  I purchased the night vision camera pack and put up cameras to protect the house when we were gone.  We went on vacation, and while we were gone, i used my laptop and the internet along with AHP to watch our house.  We were at the beach and could still turn on and off the lights and look around the inside and outside of our house.  In our new place, I have set up the cameras to watch the driveway, the bird feeder out back, the kids room and i have about three quarters of the house lighting on the automated system.  I plan to soon upgrade to the color cameras and to make a bird feeder camera that has a color camera inside a bird house so the kids and i can watch the birds lay eggs and have them hatch.. we can wait...  we love our system and would not give it up for anything..  thanks X10..

As you can see by my email address, I am a private investigator.  I will mount the X-10 Sentinel Camera on the top of my surveillance van.  Then from my surveillance spot, I will be able to Zoom, Till, Pan my way right in to another victory in the court room.  I will let my X-10 TELL THE STORY.  I will go undetected because of the X-10 ability to be controlled remotely on the internet.  The problem with a surveillance van is if the subject (the person you are watching) becomes mobile, it is hard to follow him/her.  Even a short trip to the store without being detected becomes almost impossible.  With the X-10 Sentinel I will be able to sit down the street in another vehicle.  With my laptop I will be able to see everything the subject is doing utilizing the internet.  Thanks for this great product.   My van can be seen at http://www.noseypi.com

In light of the ongoing search for Steve Fossett, I believe that the creation of a state of the art search system is needed. This could be attached to search aircraft to systematically cover a search area with high definition digital recordings which could be scrutinized in real time and/or after landing. Continuous encoding with GPS data would allow instant searches on the ground for possible finds. Testing of cameras using IR and other wavelengths of light under actual search conditions using people taking shelter under what cover those lost might use and aircraft or other debris, would result in a system that would be deployable using more qualified pilots who are simply not capable of safely using the low altitude methods currently used. Such a system would enable  search aircraft to simply follow their designated line in an overall search pattern using overlapping panoramic imaging of camera arrays to record every square foot in as much detail as required to locate anyone, anywhere, under any conditions.

Well at our house we are integrating x10 into the general house controls using Active Home Pro. I have a Philips pronto which I am integrating X10 into for control of functions within our TV room currently. I use X10 to control the lights and fans within the house, so my wife comes home to a comfortable, and lit house.  I have started to use the VA11A USB video adapter as part of a larger video monitoring system which currently includes a Ninja pan and tilt camera platform. There are plans to integrate the security sensors, a wall switch, and two appliance modules to control access to a cat-a-tat that will soon be built. Also I will add a camera for monitoring as well as two motion detectors.  Plans are in place to monitor the crepuscular and nocturnal wildlfe via low light cameras and IR LED lamps I am building. This will be in addition to the current bird feeder video monitor.
If I can add I would love to see a temperature sensor added to the product line up that can relay temperature readings back to the Active Home Pro so I could activate fans etc based on temperature set points.

Each year, I setup a Halloween display to entertain the local trick-or-treat crowd.  While the entire display utilizes X-10, there are 2 props that stand out above the rest.

The first is a coffin popper.  A coffin containing a body sits on the ground with the lid open.  The inside is illuminated in green and filled with fog.   As our unsuspecting visitor trips an X-10 motion sensor, the X-10 universal module closes contacts on a pneumatic cylinder switch.  The pneumatic cylinder engages and causes the body to sit upright at a frightening speed.

The second prop is a functioning electric chair.  This prop utilizes a universal module and 4 appliance modules.  Sitting in a chair is one scary looking guy, he is strapped down.  Next to the chair is a pole with a large knife switch mounted to it.  When a person pulls the switch, the universal module sends a signal to computer software which in turn initiates a sequence of events.  First, all the surrounding lights go out.  A high intensity (750 watt) strobe light starts flashing (turned on using an appliance module).  Next, the second appliance module turn on a drill that is mounted under the seat.  The drill is connected to the body in the chair using a cam.  This results in the body shaking violently.  The 3rd appliance module activates a tape player with the sound of a person screaming.  The 4th appliance module activates a fog machine that shoots fog out of tubes attached to the wrists, ankles and head of the victim in the chair.  After 30 seconds, the entire display stops and the surrounding lights come back on.

I use all parts of the ActiveHome Pro X-10 system except for the home security part (that will come later).  But the best part is the ceiling fan in the bedroom, which has lights also.  I was tired of having to turn on the switch on the wall, then having to go over to the fan and pull the cords to either turn on the fan or the lights.  So, I put in an inline dimmer and appliance controller above the ceiling and stuck a slimline switch on the wall.  Now, without having to rip open the walls and adding another wire, I can control the fan and the lights separately and dim the lights!  Best of all, I can turn on the fan before I come home!  The whole thing cost me about $80, which is a heck of a lot less than buying a new remote control fan!   ;D

Being a single dad, I have to be sure my pre-teen children get home safely off the bus.  I've set up an X10 camera  on the front porch to watch the bus driver stop in front of the house.  It is a huge relief to know that I can work a couple of more hours after I witness for myself over the internet that the kids made it home.
I have another X10 camera  mounted over the kitchen table.  I call this one my homework cam.  I watch the kids doing homework here and view a piece of the TV in the next room.
I have one big rule a home; "No TV until the homework is done!”  I admit I have enjoyed catching the kids sneaking a peek at the TV and I remotely switch off the power to the TV since it is plugged into an X10 wall receptacle.
Where I could use help from you folks, if I could win the Sentinel Camera  I would replace the homework cam.  I could pan and zoom to help with my children’s homework instead of having them wait till I got home.  This would free up more time for us to have some family time around the house before bedtime.  Thank you. Mitchel.

OK, Here's my idea.

     A 256 sensor (ds10a/ms10a) security system using the DS7000.

You have one Master security console.  This console is the "business end" of the system.  It does all the light flashing and phone calling.  You then have additional DS7000 consoles each containing up to 16 sensors each.  I'll call these "Slave Consoles". You can have up to 16 slave consoles each on it's own house code or they can be all the same house code if you wish . On each slave console, there is one UM506 set to continuous. There is also a DS10A that is hooked up to the UM506. This DS10A is NOT installed into the slave console. It IS installed into the Master console. It has no magnetics contacts but it's leads are hooked to the UM506. Since you can have 16 zones on the master and 16 on each slave and you can have up to 16 slaves,  you can have a total of 256 sensors at one time.

The UM506 is set to the house code of the slave console but on a different unit code from the slave console. Both the UM506 and the slave console are plugged into an XPFF filter.  This blocks the all light on/all units off signal from the slave console from going onto the power line.  When a sensor that belongs to the slave console is tripped, the slave console begins it's on/off signal which in turn turns the UM506 off thereby opening it's contact. Opening the contact on the UM506 triggers the DS10A that is hooked to it to send an Open.  Since this DS10A is installed in the Master console and is now reporting that it is open, it trips the Master console, sounds the siren and starts making phone calls.   Because the Slave consoles are plugged into a noise filter, their on/off commands are never sent onto the power line so there are no power line collisions. They really do not take up a house code. The house codes assigned to the slave consoles can be used for other things.

The good part about this setup is you don't need any software to make it work.

     Well that's my entry.

  Please vote for me.

Thanks

I would try X10 motion sensors deriving power from a solar cell operating at night by a rechargalbe battery with the ability to detect sound, humidity, and tempeture for various security and home automation.

I used the motion detectors and camera to find out what was eating my tomatoes.  Turns out that between 3:30am and 4 am, a family of raccoons comes for breakfast.   Because they keep the motion detector firing I used an appliance module to cut the power to the transmitter that the motion detector sends to.  When the motion detector keeps firing, it messes up the cm-15.  This stops the problem and then I have a macro that starts recording video on my computer.  After a preset time, I turn on the appliance module so the motion detector will work again.  This keeps the amount of video to review to a minimum.
I would like to see an infrared camera from x10

I use the x10 in my car like a dash cam, i also use it to catch the little punks doing damage to my car when I'm sleeping.
But what i use it the most for is to surveillance my place of work when I'm not there , to keep an eye on the way the others perform their duties , and that they are up to state and federal laws.

I will streemline the signal over the internet and view it at home or at work. I use my x10 to the fullest.

This product is the best for the price being asked anywhere.

It is really nice to be able to access my x10 from anywhere in the world on my cell phone ( my 8525 pda ) and view whats on KenTv ( my x10 video camera ) such as watching fellow employees at work , or view whats going on at home , and best of all what happens to my car when I'm not there to defend it and be able to identify the person or persons responsible for damages done.

I also use my x10 for watching my brothers kids when they want to play in there room, this way i dont have to ask " what happened ? " ;D

Not only do continuously use it at home to turn lights on and of via timers, and the same thing with my Christmas lights, but I incorporated the cameras at work. I teach a fiber optics course at work. Part of our concept of troubleshooting a fiber optic network, I used the wireless cameras in conjunction with our mock up fiber optic network. So basically, the students see the camera system working, then I break or put a fault in the fiber optic network so then they have to figure out what is wrong in order to bring the circuit back up.

I did not read all of the other entries, so I do not know if anyone else has a similar idea.

I am in the process of implementing video and audio observation into interesting and fun areas of my 0-gauge model railroad layout.  Current tests include remote observation and control of freight and engine yard operations, an on-board train camera (audio adds a lot here), and overall multi-angle action views.  I still have more tests and more equipment to purchase before it could be considered fully operational, but so far, I am having a lot of fun with the idea.  Even my wife thinks it’s cute.  [Now, we can monitor the stealthy approach of the evil train-destroying cat-demons!]

The added versatility of the Sentinel camera would allow overall remote controlled monitoring of the entire layout with the ability to zoom in on potential trouble areas or specific operations status.  Whatever the level of system intricacy I ultimately achieve, I know it will be incredibly enjoyable!

I use x10 to save money.  Just about all my "wall warts" power supplies are controlled by x10 appl or wall outlet units. I use several unit codes to do this, one to turn off phone units (all but one phone) each night and weekends when we are gone.   Another code to switch my computer things off at times when I am not using them.  Also battery chargers are only turned on during use. Timers are used to auto switch some that are daily.  several wall power supplies can be plugged into a power strip and controled by one x10 unit.
At Quick count I can save about 250 watts, 8 plus hours per day, not to mention the safety factor.

One of my business trips took place a few years ago during the winter, which sometimes does get below freezing in my area of Florida. I had planted several new and delicate fruit trees that fall and was worried about protecting them during any freezes. X10 to the rescue! I built cages out of 2x2 wood and covered it with clear plastic. Inside each enclosure I placed a heat lamp mounted in a spike bottom lamp holder and ran extension cords back to a pair of outdoor outlets. I replaced the outlets with X10 outlet modules and hooked up my X10 telephone responder. While I was on my trip in California, I checked on the weather every evening with my laptop using the internet. If I saw that it was going to get close to or below freezing that night, I called the telephone responder with my cell phone. I could then turn on my heat lamps and protect my plants. It worked perfectly and amused the neighbors quite a bit!

My wife and I live in a condo community on the ground floor.  We love our place, and in the summer, we like to have our windows open to let the cool breeze blow through.

One drawback is we have cats all over who love the solitude of our landscaping to have their "love sessions" when they're in heat.

So regularly, I have been awakened by cats having their loud screaming moments of romance beneath my window.  Aggravating!

I love animals, and wouldn't want to hurt any of them (although, sometimes in the middle of the night, I've had moments of weakness where I wished all sorts of evil on them).

So instead of going on a cat-hunt rampage, I rigged a system together to encourage them to take their noise elsewhere.

I used an X10 outdoor motion sensor, and X10 appliance transiever, and a solenoid from an old dishwater.  Put them all together inside a waterproof box mounted on a 4x4 post and now I have a small sprinkler system than turns itself on for about 2 mintues and mists the entire area beneath my window whenever a cat moves in to the 'love shack'.  :)

They scurry off unharmed but unhappy about being moistened, and I get my sleep.  Win win!

My plants are very happy too.  ;D

Our new travel trailer needed a backup camera.  Using an old wireless X10 camera from a grab bag purchased years ago, I rigged this system to meet the need.  It is battery-powered and can be affixed at any flat location on the trailer by means of the large suction cups visible in the photo.  The photo shows the system, affixed and functioning, on our living room window.

The system transmits to an X10 receiver, which displays on a 7" LCD monitor in our tow vehicle.  The system is then removed and stored for road travel.  New X10 cameras don't require a separate transmitter, so they would make a superior system.  However, the prototype using the older camera system proves the concept.

I own a autobodyshop , its 2 blocks away. I have a total of 8 wired and wireless X10 cameras setup there. I have a Wifi bridge setup and I can view all 8 cameras remotely. Turn on/off lights to look like someone is there at times they are not.
Having the cameras has cut crime on the whole block considerably,I have helped some neighbors with problems they have had. My lease expired and I let the bodyshop go. The day after I took down the cameras my shop was burglarized ! Goes to show how scared the crimminals were of my cameras. Luckily I already had most of my stuff removed but I still lost alot of stuff.
Nevertheless I now have the 8 cameras setup at my home. You cannot run a business in our city without some protection like this.

HELLO, I AM MOISES GONZALEZ. I USE the X-10 PRODUCTS OF the FOLLOWING WAY:
I HAVE INSTALLED IN MY PC THE SOFTWARE ACTIVE- HOME PRO. I HAVE INSTALLED IN MY HOME A CONSOLE ALARM WITH  DOOR AND WINDOWS SENSORS IN EACH ONE OF THE DOORS AND WINDOWS IN MY HOUSE.  I HAVE INSTALLED SENSORS OF MOVEMENT IN EACH INDOOR ROOM  AND IN THE OUTSIDE . ALL MY LIGHTS ARE CONTROLLED WITH TIMERS AND SENSORS OF MOVEMENT. I HAVE IN ADDITION IN THE MAIN ROOMS A TV OR VIDEO SCREEN, CAMERAS WITH BASE NINJA ROBOTICS AND AUDIO SYSTEMS OF SUCH FORM THAT REMOTELY I CAN ACCESS TO EACH ROOM AND HAVE COMMUNICATION WITH MY BEINGS WANTED IN VIDEOCONFERENCIA SESSIONS IN WHERE MY VOICE IS LISTENED TO IN THE SYSTEM OF AUDIO WHICH I HAVE INTEGRATED WIRELESSLY CONTROLLED FROM THE PC AND THE ACTIVEHOME PRO WITH THE HELP OF A SOFTWARE AS THE MESSENGER. THEY LISTEN AND SEE TO ME FROM ANY ROOM AND I SEE THEM AND I REMOTELY LISTEN TO THEM FROM MY OFFICE IN THE WORK.

FOR EXAMPLE:
I AM IN MY OFFICE AND I NEED TO CONNECT ITSELF WITH MY WIFE, THEN I ENTER VIA OF ACTIVEHOME-PRO REMOTELY AND I REVIEW BY MEANS OF THE CAMERAS EACH ROOM UNTIL I FOUND THAT WHERE THIS  IS MY WIFE. I ALSO SEE IF THERE ARE PEOPLE IN ANOTHER ROOM WHO COULD INTERRUPT THE PRIVACY OF MY COMMUNICATION, THEN REMOTELY I DISCONNECT THE AUDIO TVS AND OF THOSE ROOMS AND LEAVE CONNECTED SINGLE THE AUDIO SYSTEM OF AND VIDEO WHERE THIS MY WIFE. VIA ACTIVEHOME-PRO I SOUND AN HORN OF WARNING OF CALL AND REMOTELY I ON  THE TV AND SYSTEM OF AUDIO OF THE ROOM WHERE SHE THIS SO THAT SHE CAN SEE ME AND HEAR TO ME, IN THE SAME WAY REMOTELY I CAN SEE IT AND HEAR VIA ACTIVEHOME-PRO. SHE CAN SEE ME AND HEAR VIA MESSENGER. ONCE CONFERENCE FINISHES TO THE VIDEO I CAN RETURN TO ON THE AUDIO AND VIDEO OF OTHER ROOMS ACCORDING TO REQUIRES MYSELF.
THIS ALLOWS ME TO REMOTELY HAVE A TOTAL CONTROL OF MY HOME.
ALSO WHEN WE WENT ON A TRIP WE CAN HAVE THIS SAME REMOTE MONITORING.

ALL MY LIGHTS I CAN CONTROL THEM WITH TIMERS AND SENSORS OF MOVEMENT.
MY SYSTEM OF AUDIO IS ON  IN EACH ROOM WHEN IT DETECTS MOVEMENT AND IF IT IS AT NIGHT THE LIGHT IT ALSO IS ON AND IT OFF  WITH MOVEMENT SENSORS. OF EQUAL WAY WE HAVE THE OPTION TO ON AND TO OFF LIGHTS LOCALLY. IN THE OUTSIDE WE HAVE MONITORING  WITH CAMERAS AROUND HOUSE  AND THE SENSORS IN DOORS AND WINDOWS LEAVE REGISTRY IN OUR CONSOLE WHENEVER THESE ARE OPENED.

I ALSO HAVE IN THE ROOM AND IN YOU RECHAMBER OPENING CONTROLLER AND CLOSES OF THE CURTAINS ACCORDING TO THE HOUR OF THE DAY.

WHEN I WANT TO SEE TV. JUST BY A BUTTON I CONTROL THE ILLUMINATION OF THE ROOMS OF TV, THE ON OF THE PLASMA SCREEN AS WELL AS THE CLOSING OF THE CURTAINS AND THE CONTROL OF TEMPERATURE OF THE ACONDITIONED AIR THIS I MAKE BY MEANS OF THE ACTIVEHOME AND REMOTE CONTROL

THE SAME FUNCTION IF I WANT TO LEARN MUSIC.

Have you ever been frustrated with Bathroom exhaust fans....people don't shut them off...or they should Use them when you know what...phew!...Well here is the answer....Use an X-10 inductor module for the switch..(take out the manual switch)...give it an address...then let your imagination go wild....Use a macro....Lets see if someone is in the bathroom for more than 3-4 minutes...they probably doing their business.....Have the X10 switch the Fan on ....exhaust for about 5-6 minutes...and then switch off.   Oh the Power!...you won't have to yell "shut the bathroom exhaust fan" cause it will shut off.....Saving electric of course is always the pay-off.....Now...stay with me in the Bathroom....Your kid takes a hot steamy shower and never puts the exhaust fan on....your walls mildew...the mirror is useless...all the humidity is not good for the structure of the bathroom.....you can keep the application as above..or install a separate Sensor that lets the X10 Activehome know someone is taking a shower....simpler that way....Keep the exhaust running for about 5-6 minutes after it doesn't sense someone in the shower and your walls are dry and house is humid free...AHHH!!!!...One thing....especially for guests...let them know they are in the house of the future andthat the sensor is not a camera.....you wouldn't believe how many guests thought the eagle sensor was a camera...Show them a sensor...so they feel comfortable....you don't want to wait for the scream  :o

When you announce the Sensor Chime will be nice have test buttom on the page for customers ear how will sound your next door bell.  Better if you design it with different tones!!.  Design a product called " gradual grow home automation, security and surveillance kit " mean "all in one" first you buy a module one, then module two.... the idea is at the all modules work together like a full featured system,  security, automation, surveillance and energy saver.

Thank You.

You should market your wireless camera systems to elementary schools throughout the country. Schools could place them in problem spots. Schools operate on budgets and with your prices people would vote for it.

Good Luck

id use the x10 to keep an eye on the apartment complex and my friends house the apartment has a lady who has carbon monoxide poisoning and she has been living there about four months and has been robbed by drug addicts that run in and grab what they can and run off i live about a block away without zoom i cant really see her door to well so we cant try to stop them cause it happens the first time a 3 o'clock am  the next time at 5 pm and my friend house she has a young boy and the apartment has a big swimming pool and the people leave the ladder in all the time and don't watch for the little kids that could climb in we have asked them to take the ladder out and watch to be sure that the kids don't get into the pool but they don't give us the time of day so we keep a eye on the place cause I've lost a family member like that he fell in the pool and the mother looked all over for him but he was at the bottom of the pool they found him two days later Robert butler was his name he was 4 thanks for reading
you need to make a x10 camera with a spot light behind it to light up the area that it points in then you can spot light someone in your yard and see them without night vision make it move like the ninja and a extra button to light up the light using a pentabeam so it dont break up in the center from far away i have a remote controlled search light that i use behind my camera that works great one nigh there was a shooting in the neighborhood and my friend called and asked me to shine the light down the alley cause he couldnt see who ws out there so i did and the guys thought it was the cops coming so they split running so it saved my friends life cause if he would have came down his stairs he would have got shot so thats my idea and the way id utilize the sentinal camera but i would not need the light thanks

I own a cab company and this is why and how I use my X-10; Since I bought the cab company there's been an ongoing problem that wastes my time and money. People would call for the taxi but they never kept an eye out for it or they started talking to others or they had too much to drink and just forgot they called... We would try to call them when we arrived but the music was always to loud for them to hear us so we would have to sit and wait until they showed or we gave up and left.  My solution was to buy remote controls for each cab and build a small box with several separate compartments in it then I wired the box, added a transceiver, added as many lamp modules as I needed for the different message compartments, then using lexan I applied signage to each compartment front...for instance... when the cab drives up to the business entrance the driver presses the remote button that lights up the compartment that says " THE TAXI IS HERE" or " THE TAXI LEAVES IN 5 MINUTES" OR any other custom message I want to apply to the light box.... This has been a GREAT SUCCESS because we no longer have to wait on customers, they don't have to stand outside in the weather, everything moves faster so service is better.  I have signs in 4 bars and 1 restaurant and can expand at will...the business owners like it too because their customers don't complain about waiting or being left behind... THANKS SOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH  X-10...russ

I race on a friend's sailboat regularly in the summer months, and a couple of times a season, I record video from the race to share with others in our sailing association.  I use X10 cameras and wireless transmitters/receivers to get video footage down below where everything is dry and safe, to be recorded on a few camcorders serving as VCR decks.

During the race in this example,  you can see (about 1/3 of the way into the video through the end) the overhead X10 camera fed from about 45ft off the water wirelessly below decks to capture a unique view of our boat.  It's great for showing the sail trim, capturing an occasional bump when things get tight, and showing the crew in action.

I take all this footage and edit it together into a podcast to share with the world.

http://www.chesapeakesailing.info/a30/NOOD.swf

I hope you enjoy the video!

You've gotta love X10, and the creative things it allows us to do!  In addition to use on the sailboat, I've mounted them under a Jeep and on the fender during off road expeditions, on a long boom pole in a hot air ballooning trip, on the deck of a kayak in a kayak-surfing video production, and all over mountain bikes in cross country and downhill races.  The thing I love most about X10 cameras is that they are so reasonably priced, when I occasionally destroy one during a bike crash or something.  Without them, I wouldn't be able to produce this kind of video.

I use my myriad of kits in different ways:
Motion sensors w/ chime facing front and rear entry ways - This has apparently helped prevent my vehicle from being burglarized (4 neighbors had vehicles broken into last night, which is why I was on the site today. Showing them my setup)
I also use light switches throughout the house with ActiveHome Pro for automatic room lighting in the evenings (brighter during the early evening, and fades out over 6 hours)
I also use the wall remote for instant all-on lighting, as well as a keyfob for entry lighting.

With chimes, lights, and even the remotes, my house stays well lit, even when I am out of the country.
