Title: Won't Install - Getting "Corrupt Installation file" message
Post by: etutor on November 27, 2007, 08:35:31 PM
Hello from Wisconsin,

Recently ordered  cam pack with sw. Get "corrupt installation file" message every time I try to install. Got new install link four times and each time produced the same corrupt file. Tried different computer and different inet connection and same error message. Window XP, with IE6.  No response from X10 >:(
Any users out there know of this problem and have any solutions. Tried search of forum, but nothing found.

Thanks,

Dave

I got the software and experienced the same corrupt installation error with a .dll file about 75-80% through the installation. The work around for me was to install the driver for your USB input device, i.e. the 11A or the CM19A. Seems that after I completed this, the file installed with no problems.

I am having the exact same problem I keep getting corrupt files from X10 I have tried three times now and I cant even get a response from X 10 them selves. If anybody can forward me a good working version of the Vangaurd software I would be very much in dept to them.
Thanks

I just downloaded a copy and it instaled flawless!
I hope everyone is saving the file to their hard drive and not trying to install from the internet! if so thats why it is failing! ;)

tom j   in a word NO! :(
Since I have AHP installed I'm thinking that is the issue as I get a dll error and Vanguard shuts down.
I can't even get it to send a simple e-mail (no pic)! I have another PC here to test it on but I have to replace the lan card first! :'(
But really Vanguard won't do anything that AHP won't infact AHP with all the plug-ins is a much better buy and you can do more with AHP!
If your really set on another program for sending you a pic via email look at the free XrayVision software (http://www.x10.com/products/xrayvision_software5.htm). It has been ages since I used it but you can do that with it! It also would monitor your cam image and if it senses movement mark the movement and save the pic! Also Xray works with any capture device! ;) :D ;D Or any I tried!

Well I got to say it again Tuice You The Man!! Yep thanks again for all the help. But what I can't understand is why x10 releases software and sometime hardware that doesn't work?? don't they realize a happy customer buys more stuff and a dissatisfied one trashes your products! I think x10 has the worst and I mean worst programmers around I remember when AHP first came out it was over a year latter and folks were still complaining about timers, TIMERS not working!!!! So go figure :-\. Ok humm.. let me see I think you said I need x10 dispatch for iWitness to actually send the e-mails so how about Xray vision do I need it also for Xray vision for send e-mails or can it accomplish this on it's own? Thanks & Happy Holidays!

Xray will send e-mails on it's own I haven't tested it with AHP on A system though!

Thank you sir! humm.. so would you say that my best bet would be iWitness with X10 dispatcher then, I have AHP and all the plugins. Hope I'm not repeating myself I might of asked you a similar question but I can't find the link, I've saved this one!! Thanks & Happy Holidays!

tom j:   If you have AHP and all the Plug-ins you won't need X10dispatcher (http://www.x10dispatcher.com) to send pics as AHP with MYHouse will send the e-mail. but X10dispatcher is good for other features not available with Vanguard or AHP.
In fact if you have AHP and All the Plug-ins you'll be wasting money to get the Vanguard software as I've seen no added features that AHP doesn't have.
You will need the VA11A (X10 USB Video Capture Device) though if you don't have one yet! ;)
Cheers &  Happy Holidays!

tom j  Sorry for the slow reply!
Yes, AHP MyHouse plug-in will send your pics captured via the iWitness plug-in!
If you also have the SmartMacro plug-in you can set conditions so your not filling your mail box with pics from unwanted activity!

I am having the same problem here where the download is corrupt.   We called and someone stated that "it is a common problem."  She said she would send a zip file and that it was on the way while we were on the phone.  That was about 30 hours ago and we have received nothing.  We tried the online support to get this message:

"( Marie 14:35:26 ) Give me a minute to find your answer
( Marie 14:35:36 ) Thank you for using online chat system. However, we reserve this system to answer pre-sales questions.  Answers to your order support questions can be found by calling our support hotline at 1-800-442-5138."

That was the number we called before.  I tried again and was on hold for 15minutes only to be disconnected.  This is starting to become a very frustrating experience.   Does anyone  have the software non-corrupted that they could send?  It would be very appreciated.  Thank you.

John

Once you do get the file to open that is where the real frustration sets in.You suddenly realize you just spent some your hard earned money on some of the worst software ever written and no support to boot.I have come to the conclusion this software is fatally flawed, and I cant believe that x10 hasn't been a defendant in a class action fraudulent merchandising lawsuit yet. After you do get it to install you will see it is plagued by "cant run dll as an app" error files constantly.I have spent over 40 hours trying every fix suggested by 10 tech as well as every fix on this forum.I ordered the package for use with my new vista laptop. This stuff will not work with vista I don't care what you read on this forum. So i  give up on putting it on the vista machine hoping it will work with my vaio Rb 52 windows xp desktop. It does install in Xp but again with all the "cannot run dll as app messages and crashes. While the premise of the software is awesome it just wont do what x10 says it will do.I'm gonna goad x10 thru this forum until
(1) x10 gives the buying customers some solutions  (2) another forum member gives me solutions that actually work.(3) x10 finally boots me because I'm digging into sales . Feel free to email me with your complaints as well as praise or help with this software ......minitman762mm@ yahoo.com

Even windows won't support 98 any longer but you can still buy it if you wish too! ::)
This program was originally written for 98 expecting it to run in Vista is a stretch! ;)
Although some users have been able to get the Va11A working in Vista it requires some creative ways, which many don't have the patience for!
x10guru   Instead of posting rants try working with some that have this working!
It is unlikely that X10 will respond to you here even without ranting, and it will most likely be the members here that will get you banned! :(

Ok peoples here is an update on my situation.I gave up on using with Vista and loaded vanguard into my Xp desktop.Install went great but program was giving me same "cant run dll as app " message.but it did have video and it was recording to my hard drive. But when i try to access video vanguard would crash.went to option checked "record video as avi file" and tried to open recorded avi files with windows media player.Major system crash with media player and got the "wolud you like to send info on this problem to Microsoft message.I clicked yes and sent info to Microsoft.Got frustrated and walked away and left machine on overnight.Woke up next day opened vanguard and started playing around again and suddenly its working. Now i can look in my documents and there are three new entrys one for stills, one for videos and one for snapshots all easily opened with a mouse click.I'm going to give the credit to Microsoft for this fix.Oh and thanx for your reply s.And on another note I also have to say that although tech support was limited in there ability to make this work they were making an honest attempt to help me out,And the purchasing experience itself was great.Fast delivery, everything i ordered was in the box etc.I am still hoping for Vista support in the future but customer support cant give me a time frame as of now.again thank everyone who has tried to help me with this problem yours truly x10 guru......................................

Oh one more thing. I realize that getting a windows 98 program to run on vista is a stretch at best.my only complaint is that x10 should mention this fact in their adverts.I mean shoot windows 98 was what ? three operating systems ago right? you cant even buy a new computer that doesn't have vista preloaded software so  i think x10 should be a little more up front about this thats all.

Nice to hear you have everything working!
I can't agree with you more!
X10 needs to post disclamers or warnings with their software pages, especially for the ones known to have problems with Vista! ;)

Yeah I was thinking when I read your post... I bought my Vista laptop last March (shortly after Vista was released). If a year isn't enough time for them to get their product updated... they should at least post the fact it isn't.

I got the software and experienced the same corrupt installation error with a .dll file about 75-80% through the installation. The work around for me was to install the driver for your USB input device, i.e. the 11A or the CM19A. Seems that after I completed this, the file installed with no problems.

Rob

This helped me as well.

Went to: http://www.x10.com/support/support_soft1.htm
Downloaded X10 Drivers
Installed X10 Drivers

Installation of Vanguard then completed successfully.
