is there a way to use a couple of wired cameras with a wireless system and still have the benefit of the software?

Yes!
As long as your cams ca be controlled(powered ON/OFF) via X10!
Hint: Use appliance modules and plug your cams power supply into it (if the power supply isn't X10 Controlable)!
And feed the video through the VA11A using RCA "Y" adaptors! ;)
