Title: Backyard shed lights
Post by: fta123 on March 20, 2008, 12:23:11 AM
Hello all...this is my first post.....I have just bought some X10 wall switch modules with the intention to be able to turn the back yard shed lights on and off remotely from the house, the shed is about 40 feet from the back door of the house so distance might be of some concern. I have never installed or play with any of the X10 modules so I decided to ask you guys before I do something wrong. The shed would be the first experiment but I also would like to expand to the lights in front of the house.
What type of remote/device would I need to control thses lights?
Is there a way to control these devices via computer?
What about having the front lights turn by using another X10 motion sensor?

Any help would be great...thanks

Yes. I suggest you look at X10's ActiveHomePro. They regularly have it on their website's deals page for $50 and it includes all 4 software plug-ins.

If this line is on a separate breaker and is part of the main house electrical service, then it should not be a problem.

What are you planning to use for controlling the wall switches? Did you also purchase a plug-in controller or transceiver / remote?

To do this, you need a Transceiver that receives the X10 RF signal and turns it into an X10 Power Line Control (PLC) signal.

Puck  pretty much covered it all!
Definitely get the Active Home Pro (all plug-ins included) package it includes a PC interface which is also a transceiver!

Just to add, I have X10 wall switch modules in my shed, which has a 100+ foot wiring run, and they work just fine.

Point me to the X10 website where X10 offers AHP and the whole plug-ins for 50 bucks. Here's the link for Active Home Professional http://www.x10.com/activehomepro/activehome-pro.html and "What's Included" does not offer any plug-ins.  50 bucks gets you AHP and the CM15A only.

You asked Priority Support   delivered I think that deserves a helpful from you! ;)
There is a reason Puck and I didn't supply a link to this as it frequently changes.
Brings to mind an old post on here about using TTA's Tackel Shop or Tuicemen's Fish Market, some people just never learn how to fish! ;) :D ;D

I did give him a "helpful" for his post about Active Home Deals, which just looking at the Active Home Pro part of X10's website, nothing is mentioned. A helpful also went to you.

Many times there is even two or three places with similar or the same offer.
